Double Curtain Rods
Double curtain rods can help you create a number of fabulous looks for you windows. The installation process is similar to other hanging rods. You will need all the same tools. A pencil, tape measure, screwdriver or hammer and I like to have a level on hand. You can purchase the hardware needed and rods and a package deal or if you already have rods all you will need is the bracket. You will however, need one standard rod and one deep, to allow for proper spacing or your curtains or drapes.
Now that you have your supplies together simply measure you desired or need height for your curtain rod brackets. Height of the bracket will depend on a few factors. One is the length of the curtains to be hung and two is the desired look or effect that you want. Once you know the desired height you will want to space the bracket about two inches from the window edge. Now that you know the dimensions it is time to measure and mark the location. Measure desired distance from the floor and from the window edge, place bracket in desired location and mark with a pencil where the nails/screws will need to be located and repeat on the opposite side.
Now that you have your positions marked take and screw or nail into place the bracket. I prefer to use screws, as nails tend to come out over time, but the choice is yours and may depend on the material you are securing to. If you use velvet curtains that you can only use screws as the nails will not hold. Once the brackets are in place all you need to do is simply place your curtains on the rods and hang. The standard size should be on the inside and the deep on the outer.
Double curtain rods are great for layered looks such as valances and shears or drapes and shears. This is also great for adding depth and texture for your window treatment creation. Although many beautiful styles can be created with this type of rod they can also perform a utilitarian use as well. This is also a very good method for providing added insulation against the elements of sun/heat or cold or privacy from prying eyes. It allows for a denser drape or curtain to be used on the outer rod during these times but will also give you the opportunity to pull a layer aside when not needed. This can still provide you with a beautiful and stylish look but also has the added convenience of insulation or privacy without blocking out all the view or light at all times. So regardless of you needs or desires this style of rod can help you achieve a multitude of window treatment looks.
