Double Curtain Rods Make Your Life Easier

By | Jun 30, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

To make hanging window treatments a much simpler task, you can use double curtain rods that combine two poles into one bracket on each end. They do not cost much more and come in a variety of styles, just like the standard curtain rod options.

Using a double curtain rod is a great idea if you want to hang sheer drapes behind lined curtains, whether a solid color or a print that coordinates with a room's decor. They save time and the frustration of trying to place both sets correctly.

Installing one bracket on each end of the window frame is usually not a big deal. However, hanging two sets can be a challenge. One set must be placed lower or next to the other, and they both must be perfectly level. Plus, in order for them to hang properly, they need to have varying depths on the brackets. This was often used for the old fashioned aluminum rods with different widths to accommodate hanging double draperies. Today's decorative curtain rods usually attach in a different manner, so hanging 2 curtain rods with ornate end caps is difficult. It also defeats the purpose of having something with more style, only to be covered by the drapes hanging on the outer pole.

New products include two poles that are attached to each other in an attractive manner, spaced a couple inches apart, for ease of placing the draperies on them. Usually they are attached to each other with a gracefully curving bar in the same finish as the poles, for a unified look.

Using decorative curtain rods in this manner allows you to create many unique looks to suit your style. A top valance can be hung on the outer pole, and you can hang drapery panels on the inner pole. If you prefer using window scarves, this can be done as well. Though the outer pole may be visible, depending on how you drape the scarf, it is decorative and it will be acceptable to show through.

With these products, you can play with color, putting two different solids together or a print and a solid. Placing one solid color on the inner pole and a contrasting one on the outer pole. This can help bring out two colors present in a room's decor and help give the room a more contemporary look. Prices for these products are reasonable, typically ranging from $15 to $40, depending on size and style. This is less expensive than purchasing the poles with accompanying hardware separately and is certainly less of a hassle when hanging window treatments.
