Double Pushchairs UK - The Checklist

What to look for in a double pushchair - the check list

For those of us who have just one child or two children but with a good few year's difference in age, buying a double pushchair is not something we have to concern ourselves with. If, however, you're about to have twins or have a baby and a small toddler then a double pushchair becomes pretty crucial.

There are a fair few differences between choosing a single or double buggy so I thought it would be useful to write a checklist of considerations to help those of you who are thinking of buying a double pushchair.

Here is my checklist which is split into categories.

Safety
• Check pushchairs conform to the latest industry safety standards
• Do both seats come equipped with a five point harness
• Does the pushchair have easy and strong wheel locking
• Is the pushchair easily collapsible and lightweight enough to avoid injuries to myself

Practicality
• Weight v strength - Look for the optimum weight relative to the type of usage.
• Transport - measure trunk access to be sure of choosing a pushchair that fits
• Domestic - Measure home door and hallways to choose a model that can fit easily in your home.
• Storage - Again match the dimensions of your pushchair against the area where it will be stored in your house.
• Tandem or twin pushchair - which style best suits your children and lifestyle

Accessories
• Space for shopping - this may well be key, 2 kids and a double pushchair make's storage for other items crucial.
• Sun shades - keep your kids protected if you live in a hot climate
• Built in fleeces or rain covers - as above but for kids protection in cold climates
• Comfort - is there decent padding and support for the kids if used frequently
• Entertainment - Are there fixings for toys to keep young ones occupied
• All in one travel systems - do you need to add or detach a baby car seat or baby carrier?

I think the above checklist covers most of the major considerations that you will need to take into account. Obviously ignore those that are not relevant. Tick them off your list as you go and you should be on your way to finding the right double pushchair.
