What is Sea Salt?

There is a big difference between regular salt and sea salt. Most of us don't realize they are two totally different things. One is a synthetic formulated product. The other is all natural and is commonly found all over the world.


The salt we eat everyday, commonly known as table salt, is found everywhere. It is produced by kiln-drying the salt first, while adding anti-caking agents to it. This high heat process removes the moisture from the salt, producing a substance that is very hard on our bodies.  For years salt has  been given a bad name and is most commonly associated with high blood pressure, heart problems, and kidney disease!   The healthy alternative to this is, of course, natural unprocessed sea salt.

Unprocessed sea salt has many minerals and trace elements that our body needs. Sea salt is obtained by the solar evaporation of the sea water. You would think that regular ocean water would be the source of this sea salt, but the over pollution of these bodies of water make them harmful to us. However, there are many areas free of pollution and rich in minerals for us to harvest it.

Sea salts are harvested from farms in France, Italy, Hawaii, Peru, and even California to name a few.  These salts are harvested by hand and go unprocessed. They are either gray and moist, or sun-dried into a rock like crystal. Their particular composition is different from region to region, but they all contain the minerals and trace elements of the sea, which are essential for our body. Not to mention a great addition to flavor in our meals and drinks.

Salt, in its natural form, is a vital element for all living organisms including ourselves. Water, salt, and potassium together regulate the water content of the body. Our daily food has potassium from its natural sources of fruits and vegetables, but not salt(sodium chloride). That's why we need to add salt to our daily diet.

Sea salt and High Blood Pressure

Salt is not actually bad for you. It does not raise the blood pressure, it is the insufficiency of other minerals that make us keep water inside the cells that cause a rise in blood pressure. This is contrary to the misconception that it causes high blood pressure.  The truth is by simply taking in unprocessed sea salt instead of table salt, the body will not keep this water due to the presence of the sea salts extra minerals.

Drinking one or two glasses of water with a dash of sea salt will quickly quiet a "thumping" heart, and in the long run aid in reducing blood pressure.

Take a bath in Sea Salt

By adding some Sea salt to your relaxing bath might sound different, but it's really great for your skin. It is very efficient in eliminating the toxins of the body while enriching the skin with vital minerals. It actually creates an antiseptic effect for the skin and reduces histamine, which causes inflammation and itching sensations. The National Pediatric Hospital has used this therapy since 1988 with many succesful results.

By inhaling salt-infused air, you can calm, regenerate and flush the entire respiratory system for easier breathing. In Eastern Europe, asthma sufferers are often treated to a visit to a salt mine. The salty air kills airborne pollutants and works as an antibiotic.

Benjamin Franklin once wrote that when he felt ill he would go to the sea and take a few drinks. The next day he would feel great again.

I'm not saying it is a cure-all magic potion, but by just adding an element to our body that was missing has made me feel more energized and bright. I sleep better at night, and all my "parts" seem are working really good!
