Dry Shampoo
No matter how well we schedule our daily personal grooming routines, there will be those days when a lack of time or motivation moves hair shampooing directly to the bottom of the must-do list. Dry shampoo that needs no water is an increasingly popular solution when time is limited and water access may be unavailable.
This hair care category has become so significant in recent years that the beauty industry calls this category of haircare products shampowders. Shampowders come in two styles, a dry shampoo spray that comes from cans under vacuum pressure, and containers in which the user shakes out the powder onto the dry hair that needs cleaning.
When you are lathering up in the shower, applying traditional shampoo and water to your locks, the process washes away accumulated dirt, grime and oils from each hair follicle. Dry shampoos, however, are designed to soak up those same elements rather than wash them away by using a powder base of talcum, cornstarch, rice or potato starches. Some high-end manufacturers may also add scent and conditioning agents to the powder mixture. The powder is shaken onto the hair or sprayed onto the hair from the can, allowed to absorb dirt and oils for several minutes before the hair must be brushed in quick strokes in order to sweep away the powder residue.
It's important not to over-spray the hair with powder and to use an all-natural bristle brush for removal. Otherwise, specks of white powder are likely to remain in the hair. Some dry hair shampoo users find that this hair cleaning method is good for in a pinch or for revitalizing hair but can never take the place of a thorough wet shampoo cleaning and rinsing with water.
Other users find that the type of dry shampoo makes a difference in the results, with some more expensive solutions found to be the most effective for cleaning and revitalizing the hair. It's also important to follow the instructions on the spray-can or container to maximize cleaning results.
People with delicate hair, or have used hair loss shampoo, often like this cleaning option for in-between wet shampooing so they don't dry their hair out by wet shampooing too frequently. People who color their hair also find that dry shampooing helps to extend the life of their hair color.
Dry shampoo is a very good option to keep in your arsenal of hair care products for those times when a thorough wet shampoo and wash simply isn't an option.
