Dry skin on dogs - skin problems

Dogs and skin problems tend to occur. A dog's skin is more sensitive than ours. So dogs tend to have skin problems, or dog skin allergies a lot of times. Allergies can contribute to dog skin problems. So can bad diet. Also improper hygiene, or dog skin conditions, like fleas for example, can contribute to skin problems. You'll have to be aware of their symptoms.

To notice if your dog has skin problems, you'll tend to see them itch a lot. Dogs tend to itch, but if they're itchy excessively, then you should be advised that their skin is causing irritation. Dry skin on dogs are pretty easy to figure out. It's white flakes that appears on their fur. That's dry skin.

Sometimes its a bit difficult to see for sure. You should examine your dog's skin, where they're itching. To see if there's any bumps, bites, rashes to the skin. You can't always assume its dry skin. The skin might have been damaged and its causing irritation. You can get your dog to stand on a newspaper, then run a comb through their fur. Check for any mites, fleas, or insects. Sometimes they're so small, it's hard to see them on the skin.

Your dog needs proper nutrition to promote healthier skin. You should pick foods that contain good nutrition. A good source of fiber, and vitamins. Specific vitamins like A, C, and vitamin E promote health skin. Giving your dog actual vitamin E supplements can also be beneficial to your pets skin. Changing your dogs food should be done gradually, if you do so.

Virgin coconut oil can assist in helping with dry skin. It's safe to give to dogs, but probably should be discussed with your vet first. Virgin coconut oil helps protect the skin. You should notice a beautiful coat within a few weeks, if you give them a teaspoon per day. Coconut oil will even help your pets maintain their weight, along with protecting them from other diseases. Virgin coconut is quite healthy for dogs.

Bathing your dog too much can contribute dry skin. It tends to dry their skin out even more. It's definitely best to bathe a dog when the weather is warm, and not cold. You should only bathe your dog once every three months, avoiding winter. Picking the right shampoo is important, because a dogs skin is very sensitive. Oatmeal seems to help prevent the skin from drying out.

For serious and severe dog skin problems, seek a vet. Also, discuss any pet supplements you give a dog with your vet first. Especially if they're on any kind of medication. Serious dog skin symptoms are bleeding to the skin, loss of appetite, loose stool, and change in behavior. Better diet can prevent dry skin on dogs.
