What's the Difference Between the AM01 and AM03?
The following comparison account will take an in-depth and objective ‘breakdown’ overview of two of Dyson’s highly regarded (air multiplier) blade-less fans: the AM01 vs AM03 -- through highlighting the differences between them (i.e the desk fan and the pedestal fan) as well as what commonalities that they share -- amongst features and specifications. This will in turn, provide you with a clear overview as to what each cooling unit can offer you (and the actual value it offers relative to its price) and from this you will be able to easily determine which fan unit best suits your cooling needs & preferences.
Intended ‘Cooling’ Jobs
The AM01 (desk fan): designed to sit nicely on your table or bed side cabinet to provide you with a ‘personal/individual cool’, making it ideal for study areas and professional workplaces & environments . It is available in two versions the 10 inch and 12 inch -- with the latter being the more powerful (as well as more expensive version), which is also the version that will be discussed here (see a comparison of the two AM01 10 inch vs 12 inch).
The AM03 (pedestal fan): this fan is engineered and manufactured for ‘whole room cooling’ distributing a powerful smooth airflow across a room with precision. I believe this model to be particularly ideal for the bedroom as you get the element of a focused air-flow (through adjusting its trajectory) but it also works to cool the entire room down (as well as being operating at low dB levels).
The Engineering & Design Appeal
Both models are obviously very unique given that they are a ‘bladeless’ fan (which offers a range of benefits by itself -- such as: being easier to clean, safer around children, a 'cool' talking point etc.), but in addition to this they are actually a wonderfully crafted and designed device (which are also available in a range of colours -- usually fixated around the metal aspect of iron/silver/nickel), that suits almost any room decor (particularly modern/professional) and gives that sense of added openness & lightness (as you can of course see through them).
But the air flow produced itself is the air multiplier’s most prized asset. It is ultra smooth and actually comforting which is in complete contrast to what you get with a traditional bladed fan that often produces a stuttered, buffeted and choppy like (and frankly irritating -- particularly on the eyes) airflow. They remind me very much of an Apple type product, but just in the ‘fan’ world.

The Differences Between the AM01 and the AM03
Air Fan Flow (power), Oscillation Movement & Touch Tilt Capabilities
The AM01 is able to operate through the process of inducement and entrainment -- and can draw in over 7 gallons of air per second and then amplify this by up to 15 times . Moreover, you can direct the air flow through its touch-tilt mechanism (10 degrees either way) and 90 degree oscillation to get the optimal trajectory for the user along with the speed being fully adjustable (through its dimmer switch control, located at its base -- it doesn’t however come with a remote) and not just a standard set of 3 speeds you get with normal desk fans.
However, the AM03 is obviously a more powerful cooling device with it being able to draw in more air (8.71 gallons) and amplify this by up to 18 times -- so it can produce a pretty intense air flow (again which is fully variable through the ‘dimmer switch control’, where it can be set either at the base or via remote control). It is adjustable through tilting as well as in height (with no clamp being required to hold it place)-- allowing you to get the absolute best angle.

Each model is also covered on a two year warranty (active from the date you receive your Dyson fan) which covers both parts and costs. Dyson also offer a 5 star customer service and as you probably know is a very reputable company.
Conclusion: Should You Buy the Dyson AM01 or AM03?
Each model is designed and trying to achieve two different tasks -- the AM01 for personal cooling (to be used in a home study or office i.e just for you) and AM03 for whole room cooling (for you to share, the bedroom, living room, dining room etc.), so which one you get should be dependent on what type of cooling you are in need of (and it is probably more likely to be a case that you get both). Which one will you buy and why?
Moreover, if you have any concerns, questions or comments regarding either the comparison overview of the AM01 Vs AM03 (along with any further potential suggestions) or about either model specifically (e.g. which fan is best suited for the office or bedroom? etc.) then please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section (that you will find just below the fold) and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
