Should I Buy an AM01 or AM05?
Are you interested in buying a Dyson Air Multiplier - specifically the AM01 and AM05 - however are unsure as to which model to go for? If so, you have found the right brief & objective overview guide that will contrast both their specifications & features - to ultimately give you a clear view as to what each model can offer you and from that which model (with respect to its price) offers the best overall value for money.
Intended Jobs - firstly to just give a brief overview as to what each cooling & heating device should be used for:
The Dyson AM01 - is basically just a desk fan (which comes in two versions - the 10 inch and 12 inch) that is intended for personal cooling.
The Dyson AM05 - is a fan + heater (an updated version to the AM04), that is used for whole room cooling & personal heating (that utilises air multiplier technology).

Both the AM01 and AM05 (obviously) utilise air multiplier technology which allows them to produce a ultra smooth & comforting air-flow (in contrast to the choppy air flow that bladed fans produce). The difference between them being that the AM01 is designed for sole purpose cooling ("personal cooling") -- where it amplifies by 15 times 7.13 gallons of air per second (for the 12 inch model & 5.3 gallons of air per second for the 10 inch model) and the AM05 is used for cooling down an entire room evenly and efficiently -- where it amplifies 6 gallons of air per second.
So if you are after a focused (& effective cooling air flow), you should opt for the AM01. However, this is not to say that the AM05 isn't effective as a fan, just in is the particular aspect (of personal cooling) the AM01 is more effective at it as this is what it was purely designed for. You should also note - that with the AM01 you have complete variable settings (through its dimmer switch control panel based at its base -- so you can choose the most optimal air flow speed), whereas with the AM05 it has a set of 'ten' (still a signifcant improvement than you get with standard fans which is usually just three different speed settings).

Through use of a PTC ceramic heater -- the AM05 allows you to select to the precise degree (through its LED temp display) between a range of 1 to 37 degrees celsius (along with its intelligent thermometer, that turns itself off when it senses that the room has achieved the desired temp level & will start up again, if it drops below it -- saving energy) and has been proven to be the "fastest whole-room heating" mechanism currently available on the market to provide an evenly distributed and long range heat projection (through use of its air multiplier technology).
It is also installed with a range of safety features such as the 'auto cut off', so if its knocked over -- it automatically cuts out (and when used as a fan, like the AM01, it has no fast spinning blades hence is safe to be used around curious children as well). Moreover, no 'burning' type smells are produced (like you get with standard heaters) as it operates under the dust burning threshold temperature of 392 degree farenheit.
To control the settings on the AM01 - you have to use the panel base, however with the AM05 you don't only have to use just that -- but you can also use a remote controller for both fan and heating operations. They utilise the same oscillation span (80 degrees with the AM05 & 90 degrees with the AM01) as well as both devices being able to 'touch-tilt' either way by 10 degrees, so you can point the air flow (or heat flow) of the AM01 & AM05 in the user's most favoured trajectory.
AM01 10" Dimensions: Height - 496 x Width - 305 x Depth - 152 mm | Cord: 1.8 m
AM01 12" Dimensions: Height - 547 x Width - 356 x Depth - 152 mm | Cord: 1.8 m
AM05 Dimensions: Height - 579 x Width - 153 x Depth - 200 mm | Cord Length: 1.8 m
All models are beautifully crafted and appeal to a sleek and modern design -- but with regards to colours you are offered -- they are basically in a range mainly in the style of nickel, iron, silver, grey and white meshes (and there also rare models that also feature blue and pink etc.). Note: the cord colour is grey on all models.
Both air multiplier devices are backed by the same two year coverage warranty - that covers for costs in both parts & labour (all from the date of purchase). With regards to 'what's in the box' -- both are provided with an operations manual, the loop amplifier and base -- just the AM05 also comes with a remote control.
Should I Buy a Dyson AM01 or AM05?
I don't think it is a question of one or the other, more whether you need both (or one or the other) -- as they serve largely different tasks, as clarified in the opening section of their 'intended jobs'.
Which Dyson air multiplier/s will you buy and why?
Furthermore, if you have any questions, comments or concerns (as well any further additional suggestions & information, experiences etc.) regarding either the comparison overview of the Dyson AM01 Vs AM05 or about either air multiplier device specifically, then please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section (that you will find just below) and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
