Should I Buy a AM02 or AM07?

Are you trying to workout the differences between the Dyson AM02 and AM07 bladeless tower fan & which is the better investment to make? If so, you have found the right comparison guide. Below, we take a look at both the AM02's and AM07's distinct attributes and features -- then pin-point where the improvements have been made with the newer version (the AM07) & then a summary analysis of whether the AM07 is worth the extra money.

Summary of the Significant Differences Between the Dyson AM02 and AM07

  • The AM07 has a more powerful max air flow setting than the the AM02.
  • The AM07 is also much quieter in operation than the AM02 (both low & max).
  • You get an additional 'practical' sleeper timer program with the AM07.
  • The AM07 can also needs less power, saving you more on bills (compared to AM02).

Air Flow Velocity Power & Oscillation

They are obviously both tower fans and hence are intended to quickly & evenly cool down a whole room. Both utilize Dyson's unique air multiplier technology that uses the process of inducement to gather around 9.5 gallons of air per second and then entrainment to project a smooth cooling (non-buffeted) airflow by about 14 times for the AM02, but still a slightly more powerful potential air velocity with a 16 times projection for the AM07 due to a new 'brushless' DC motor integrated.

Moreover, they both still work on a 80 degree oscillation base to project the air flow across your living room or dining room (and should just be based in a corner somewhere to be effective). The control settings are slightly different, with the AM02 you could get a precise air flow setting but the AM07 offers you just 10 levels (still has a wider range than most traditional tower fans with about three).

The AM07 is 60% Quieter

A radical improvement that has been made with the Dyson AM07 in comparison to the AM02 (and a much needed one may I add) is the acoustic & sound dampening engineering that has taken place to reduce the noise level radically by 60% (level measured in decibels). The AM02 as most know, certainly wasn't quiet by any means, but because they have added a helmholtz cavity to prevent & dissipate motor noise as well "streamlined the air channels" it has resulted in the AM07 being able to operate at whisper quiet noise levels, yet still produce a power airflow.

Control & Settings

Visually they still take on the same classic Dyson design, unique, modern and sleek. Certainly a great talking point. Both come with the elegant magnetic curved remote control that stores away neatly under the hood of the Dyson tower fan (a touch of brilliance int he way it is curved perfectly to fit just underneath) from which you can control the air flow velocity & oscillation.

But with the AM07 they have added a sleep timer feature whereby you can have the fan going for between 15 minutes to 9 hours and then have itself automatically shut off without your input. A practical energy saving feature, without the need for you to manually turn it off like with the AM02. All the details & settings are displayed via its LED visual screen.

Improved Energy Usage with the AM07

Which also leads on nicely to the fact that the AM07 is also more energy efficient than the Dyson AM02 by around 10% less power being consumed. This is due to the great engineering achievements founded by the Dyson engineers to make the aerodynamic diffuser to position the airflow on a controlled, more efficient path. So as said with the AM02, you could use it with your air conditioning unit to potentially reduce bills by around 20%, you have even greater potential to save money with the AM07, given it is more powerful and energy efficient.

Dimensions & Specifications

In this regard they are pretty much the same. They both have dimensions of around 39.6 x 7.5 x 4.3 inches and come with a gray 6.6 ft cord length and weigh in at around the 6 lbs mark. They are also available in array of different glossed colors (white, blue and my personal favorite black nickel) to match your room's decor.

Of course its design lends itself not only as something that is stylish and modern, providing a greater sense of 'openness' in a room (and not generally uglying up the place like a traditional tower fan) -- but practicality too, with it being safe around curious kids (given their are no blades) & it is also very easy to clean.

You also get an industry leading two year warranty coverage when you buy either the Dyson AM02 or AM07 newly.

From this comparison you have hopefully got a much clearer insight of what's the difference between the AM02 and AM07 and generally which is better. But, if you do have any queries, comments or issues regarding the contrasting account of the Dyson AM02 Vs AM07 then please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section that you will find just below the fold and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
