The only real difference to be found between that of the standard Dyson DC41 and that of the Dyson DC41i (independent) is the actual attachments/accessories that it comes with (as well as the minor difference of the colour of the Dyson, the DC41i usually being red/silver whereas the multi-floor usually being yellow) other than that they are the exact same i.e it is the same vacuum model, with the same power, same practical specifications (cord length, bin capacity) etc.
(Note: for quick details of the difference, head to the quick summary section below, detailing the varied attachments you get with the all the versions of the DC41)
Firstly, then a quick overview of what has been just mentioned -- with what the DC41 and DC41i share in common with regards to the fact that they are the exact same vacuum cleaner model. Therefore, they will obviously have the same cleaning performance and specifications i.e they are fitted with the uniquely Dyson patented 'radial root cyclone technology' (allowing for generation of high centrifugal forces to pick up microscopic dirt and debris, as well as preventing loss of suction power with a build fo dirt etc.) and are encompassed with a motor that generates a huge 255 Air watts, making it one of the most powerful cleaning vacuums in the market (Dyson state it to have "twice the suction of any other vacuum"). Along with being fitted with the adjustable cleaner head (lowers to hard floors, raises for soft floors) to allow for an optimal clean (see 2nd video below). Moreover, the specifications (Height: 42.4, Width: 13.4, and Depth: 15.4 inches) and practicalities remain the same e.g. the bin capacity is at 0.55 gallons, the cord length being 35 ft with a further max reach of 51.7 ft and weighing in at just 17.1 lbs. They also both encompass the unique Dyson Ball technology allowing you to manoeuvre the DC41 on a single dime.

As mentioned the only real difference between the DC41 and DC41i is the attachments that come with the purchase. It will be clearer for us to firstly analyse what comes with the DC41 (standard version, multi-floor) -- these are the usual attachments that are provided with every Dyson vacuum purchase; being the combination crevice tool (which basically allows you to vacuum in tight and awkward gaps, that also has the ability to double up with the nozzle brush fronting the end to allow you the ability to perform powered cleaned dusting) as well as the stair (upholstery) brush tool.
Where the DC41i differs is in the fact that not only does it provide you with the tools that the standard multi-floor version does (i.e combination and stair tool) but you are also provided with the stiff stubborn dirt brush (that essentially allows you to remove dug-in dirt from carpets through performing a flicking motion to pop out the dirt) and that essentially is where all the difference between the DC41 and DC41i lies. Apart from the fact of the colour change also.
Note, you can actually purchase this tool -- the stubborn dirt brush individually -- so which version to get between the DC41 and DC41i basically depends on the respective price from which you have shopped around as well as whether you really want the tool. So firstly which one is more expensive (from your research) -- from the actual package value, it would obviously suggest the DC41i to be dearer given the more value it offers (an extra brush), in which case if you decide that you want the stubborn dirt brush you should simply check the price of the standard DC41 + the stubborn dirt brush price compared to that of the total DC41i price and see which one is cheaper (where the DC41i is cheaper than the DC41, you would simply just get the DC41i obviously).
DC41 Vs DC41 Animal
Moreover, there are further versions of the DC41 i.e that of the Dyson DC41 Animal in which you can then compare the DC41 Animal Vs DC41 i Animal -- however all this means is that you are comparing the exact same above i.e DC41: combination tool, stair (upholstery) tool and DC41i: combination tool, stair (upholstery) tool and stubborn bristle brush. But, now when considering the 'animal versions' both come with the extremely well regarded -- tangle-free turbine pet hair attachment that allows for highly efficient pet hair suck up (as from the name suggestions, doesn't get tangled up and hence has a much longer life than that of standard pet hair turbine tool). Again, as described above the same practices can apply when it comes to deciding which DC41 version to buy, however you now just have to also consider the Tangle free turbine tool.
Furthermore, there is a final 'deluxe' version of the DC41 to consider and that is the DC41 Animal Complete, this doesn't come as an 'indie/independent' version as this is already attached with the following -- in addition to that of the attachments provided with the DC41i Animal -- a soft dusting brush (used for cleaning delicate surfaces/areas) and a multi-angle dust brush (for awkward high reach areas e.g. the tops of shelves). In essence, then (relative to its price tag) this version of the DC41 offers you the best overall value, as you get such a wide range of accessories provided with the DC41 at a larger discounted price (compared to if you were to buy all the accessories separately, although this is something you check) because of the bundle package.

In sum, the Dyson DC41 and its actual specifications and features remain the same, but depending on the version you buy varies the attachments that it comes with and depending on the value you place on these attachments will ultimately determine which version you get relative to its price tag of both the vacuum and the individual prices of the attachments that you can order separately.
