Cleaning Suction Power

Dyson DC50: 128 AW

Dyson DC65: 245 AW

The Dyson DC65 is the very latest vacuum model produced by Dyson and through all the tests that it has undergone, it comes out as hands down the best vacuum cleaner pretty much EVER produced (certainly in terms of cleaning performance for domestic use). Whereby it can outperform all other vacuums for picking up pet hair, dirt and dust across all floor types. Therefore, as can be seen it obviously out performs the DC50 with regards to a finished clean.

This being said, the DC50 is not a standard sized vacuum cleaner, it is ultra compact only weighing in at 11.6 lbs and relative to its size it can actually perform "as well as" a standard sized non Dyson vacuum cleaner (this is due to all the advanced technology Dyson literally cram into it, which we will discuss in more detail below).

Integrated & Fitted Technology

Dyson DC50: Two Tier Radial Root Cyclone

Dyson DC65: Radial Root Cyclone | Reconfigured Brush Bar

Both the Dyson vacuum cleaners come with the very latest and updated cyclone system that affords it the benefits of being bagless, never losing suction etc. as well as performing an incredibly powerful suction performance (there is no real difference with the two tier). However, what the DC65 has with regards to an edge on not only all other non Dyson vacuums but other Dyson vacuums is its re-modified brush bar that allows it to apply 25% more power and in turn getting more dirt and dust from the depths of your carpet flooring.

The Dyson DC50 and DC65 do also come with a self adjusting cleaner head to allow for a more optimized clean among different floor types. Typically it will raise for soft flooring and lower for hard flooring, reducing the air gaps in between the suction head and the carpet -- to make it more effective in picking up dust & dirt etc.

Mobility & Ease of Use

Dyson DC50: Upright Vacuum, Dyson Ball, 5.4 kg

Dyson DC65: Upright Vacuum, Dyson Ball, 7.85 kg

Both vacuums are fitted with the famous Dyson ball technology (and are uprights) so you can easily swoop in and out of tight gaps and spaces, unlike that of a rigid wheel mechanism where you have to drag the vacuum back and forth. There is however, a clear difference in weight, the DC50 is 2.45 kilograms lighter than the DC65, which is a fair amount especially if you (are like me) suffer with mobility issues yourself.

Practicality Aspects

Dyson DC50: H: 30.1 x W: 11 x D: 13.9 inches. Cord - 24.9 ft. Reach - 28.5 ft. Bin - 0.21 g.

Dyson DC65: H: 42.4 x W: 13.4 x D: 15.4 inches. Cord - 35 ft. Reach - 51.7 ft. Bin - 0.55 g.

As you can see from the dimensions, there is a clear difference in size between the two models -- the DC50 being an ultra compact vacuum cleaner (ideal for apartments) and the DC65 being a full size vacuum cleaner (for large american homes). This fact is also reflected in the practical specifications, with the DC65 having a more extensive reach (cord + hose telescope length) as well as a bigger bin capacity.

Attachements & Accessories

Dyson DC50: Combination Tool | Stair Tool | Tangle Free Turbine |

Dyson DC65: Combination Tool | Stair Tool | Tangle Free Turbine | Dyson Soft Bristle Brush

When referring to the Animal version of the DC50 and DC65, they come with largely the same gear. A combo tool which is a crevice tool that doubles up with a brush nozzle to allow for powered dusting.

A stair tool for stairs as well as the hailed tangle free turbine tool -- this turbine is an ultra effective vacuum attachment for quickly picking up pet hair, hassle free, it works on a counter rotating head system so it can never get tangled (definitely worth checking out). The DC65 Animal also comes with a soft brush tool that has soft nylon bristles integrated to remove dust from delicate surfaces.

The Dyson DC65 Animal complete, comes with even more accessories.

Further Information

Both the Dyson DC50 and DC65 come with a 5 year guarantee. Moreover, they have HEPA filters integrated and are certified by the Allergy & Asthma foundation after they passed with flying colors.

Which Should You Buy the DC65 or DC50?

They are two different vacuums, designed for two different jobs really. The DC65 is intended for large homes and apartments, hence the extensive practical specs are needed whereas the DC50 is for smaller homes and flats where a long cord length isn't needed, but they are short on space, so the machine needs to be compact. So which Dyson will you choose the DC65 or DC50?

Please let me know in the comments section below and why. Also, if you have any questions, concerns or just general remarks regarding either of the vacuums -- make them below and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
