DC59 and DC65 Comparison
Are you debating whether to invest in the Dyson DC59 or DC65? If so, this comparison guide which highlights the key features & aspects of both, should definitely be able to help you out.
As you have probably already come across the two Dyson vacuum cleaners already, you will recognize one is the most powerful cordless upright vacuum (the Dyson DC59) and the other is the most powerful corded upright vacuum on the market (the Dyson DC65). So which to get and why?
Firstly, let's highlight the key differences between them:
DC59: 28 AW on Standard Mode & 100 AW on Boost Mode
DC65: 245 Air Watts (AW)
So obviously despite the Dyson DC59 being able to engage a suction cleaning performance that is as powerful as that of some upright corded standard vacuum cleaners (incl. the Dyson DC24), it obviously doesn't even come close to the DC65.
There is a difference of around 145 AW, which is huge. Also, considering the other aspects to consider when it comes to cleaning such as the DC65's advanced & far superior cleaner head (where it has the ability to adjust to different floor types, has a stabilized brush bar etc.) -- it allows the DC65 to be far more efficient in terms of picking up dirt, dust and debris from flooring with the huge amount of power that is supplied to the DC65.

Mobility & Maneuverability
This is obviously the main selling point behind the DC59 -- because it is cordless and incredibly light (at just over 2 kilograms), it lends itself as the 'convenience factor'. There is no need to lug a heavy vacuum up and down stairs or move it back and forth (or to even plug it into get going). Simply get hold of it (from the docking station which is provided) and start vacuuming -- anywhere.
Of course the negative aspect of the DC59 is it is cordless. Hence, runs on a battery. Although, it has a rechargeable powerful cobalt one -- it still has a finite time of up to 26 minutes (corded ones can of course run forever). On the flip side, a corded vacuum has a limited range as to which it can reach (although the DC65 does have a rather extensive reach of 12.5 m).
However, although the DC65 is a standard vacuum it compares very well in this regard to other typical vacuum cleaners given it is pretty light in comparison at around 7.5 kg, but more importantly comes with the revolutionary Dyson ball technology (which since its release has undergone a range of updates). This allows you to pretty much turn the DC65 on a dime, making it nice and easy to vacuum around any awkward spaces & spots.

Practical Specifications & Features
DC59 Bin Capacity: 0.4 Liters | Dimensions: 9.8 x 47.8 x 8.2 inches
DC65 Bin Capacity: 2.1 Liters | Dimensions: 42.4 x 13.4 x 15.4 inches
There also other practical aspects you have to consider. If you have a big house, you will need a bigger bin capacity -- as the last thing you want is to be constantly emptying your bin as it gets full frequently. Again, though if you have a smaller apartment, you won't want the DC65 given it will take up a pretty serious amount of storage space (the DC59 being far more suitable).
Dyson Attachments, Tools & Equipment
The DC59 and DC65 share a few extras such as the combination tool (which is a crevice tool that doubles up with a brush nozzle for powered dusting essentially) -- but there are quite a few differences to be had -- mainly due to the wide variety of DC65 versions.
The DC65 multi-floor comes with the combo tool as well as the stair tool. Then the next level up is the D65 animal which comes with the above plus a soft dusting brush tool as well as the very much loved (by pet owners particularly) Dyson tangle free tool. Finally, there is the ultimate version which is the Dyson DC65 Animal Complete, which comes with no less than 8 specialized Dyson cleaning extras.
It should be also noted that the Dyson DC59 does however have trick up its sleeve. It is actually a 2 in 1 vacuum as it can be transformed into a handheld vacuum cleaner (and essentially become the Dyson DC58), through removing the wand component that attaches the cleaner head and the motor cleaning handle. This will basically allow cleaning bith stairways and the inside of your car a whole lot easier.

So Which to Get the Dyson DC59 or DC65?
Clearly they each are made to serve different needs. If you are needing to clean a particularly large house, the cleaning power & practical specfications that come with the DC65 obviously suit you a lot more than the DC59. On the other hand if you only have a small flat or apartment that doesn't need too much cleaning and you are a little tight on storage space, the DC59 will be perfect.
With regards to price there isn't too much difference initially, the DC59 Animal comes in at around $500 and so does the DC65 Animal (although generally the latter is a bit more expensive).
Let me know which you will go for the D65 vs DC59 and why.
