Garage Sale

This may be one of the first things you think of when trying to come up with ways to raise money or earn extra income. Basically you clean out your house, your basement and your garage, and you put a few ads up around town and you price your things fairly cheap, so as to make sure there is a sale, and not only do you get your house clean, but you have now earned extra money.

Take that money and make sure you set it aside somewhere, so that it doesn't end up in the daily expenses of living. It can so easily get spent on other things, if you don't keep it separate from your wallet, especially sine it will be cash from a garage sale.

Sell Your Junk

Sewing Business

Before you panic and have visions of dressmaking, and more difficult projects, why not put in an ad that you are willing to do repairs. If you like sewing, and don't mind repairing tears in jeans and sewing on buttons, then this could be a great little side business for you, and you will earn some cash this way.

You get them to bring you their clothing and you work on it at home. I personally ended up through word of mouth, fixing work jeans for friends and family. They would get tears in their favorite jeans, and I would patch them with more denim. Then I was repairing zippers and buttons.

They were all too busy to do this themselves, and didn't own any sewing gear, and could not afford to keep replacing these work jeans, so they were happy with my repair jobs on the knees and zippers and buttons. I actually prefer to repair then sew from scratch, so this is good for earning more money.

Teddy Bear Doctor

If you like to sew, not only can you do repairs on clothes, but you could try doing repairs on teddy bears and dolls. This is a great word of mouth business. There is always someone with a torn teddy bear or a dress that needs repairing on a doll.

You could venture further, and make outfits for dolls and teddy bears, and even Barbie doll clothes and accessories. Many people will buy patterns for these items, and then just don't get around to making them with their busy lives, or maybe they decide they are just too busy.

Laundry

Now this one may seem old fashioned or from the dark ages, but a senior lady I know earns extra money, washing, drying and folding clothes for some of her friends and many of the single guys in the area. Many guys hate to do laundry, and will happily pay to get it done. This may not be your thing if you hate laundry, but the way this lady looks at it, is she has to do laundry anyways, she finds it relaxing, so she does other peoples laundry for cash.

The drycleaners will also do laundry but at a premium cost. So she does it for cheaper, but still makes extra money.

Dog Sitting or Walking

If you are at home, and maybe you already have a dog, you could take in another dog for while the owners are working or away. This will give your dog some company, the other dog will be much happier than sitting at home alone all day and most likely chewing the furniture, and you can earn extra money.

Teach a Craft Class or Have a Craft Show at Home

If you are talented and good with people, you could offer to teach a few of your friends a craft. You could get the supplies that are needed and charge one fee for each of them, and then you can have a fun evening and your friends will have made a craft while enjoying everyone's company.

If you create arts and crafts, and maybe a few of your friends do as well, you could get together and create a great arts and crafts show in your home. My friend does this all the time, and I have shown my art in her home along side her quilts and crafts.

What she does, is the week before, she clears away any valuables and things that are not for sale, such as trinkets and pictures, and then we line her main rooms with all of your tagged and labeled arts and crafts. She puts an ad in the local paper and a sign out front and offers refreshments, and we all do well from this craft show.

If you are crafty, this can be a great way to earn extra money at home and sell your products and get known. Starting with a home show, can give you an idea of what or if there is a market for your products.

These are just a few ideas of how to earn extra money at home. You don't have to use a computer if you don't want to. So, if you are just looking for extra money for the holidays or for fun, and don't want to pick up a second job or put in overtime, then try a few of these ideas.

List your talents and hobbies on some paper, and then see if there is any way you can turn them into extra cash. Have fun earning extra money at home, you never know you may just find your niche in the business world this way.

What great ideas. Makes me wish I knew how to sew (it's on my to-learn list). Growing up I loved our annual garage sale. My parents would split the money with my sister and me. I do remember my sister (three years older), pressuring me to sell all of my toys, however. I don't know if she was at quick to get rid of her own possessions!

Dog sitting and walking is very popular these days and if you live in a good area then it is much easier for you.
