A Wonderful Desert That You Will Serve With Pride

If you want to create a very special, homemade dessert, this easy cheesecake recipe may be perfect for you. The nice thing about this recipe is that you can add whatever topping you like, so that every time you prepare it you will have a dessert that will appear to be an entirely different creation. You can top it with fresh fruit, fruit jam, chocolate sauce, plain whipped cream, or even a combination of these toppings. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want to make it. Here's the basic cheesecake recipe:

Fresh Fruit on Cheesecake

Ingredients for Cheesecake

1 9-inch graham cracker pie crust

2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese

3 eggs

3/4 cup of sugar

3 Tablespoons of sugar

1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

1 cup of sour cream

Preparing the Cheesecake Ingredients

Before you get started, set the ingredients out on the kitchen counter for about a half hour, so that they are at room temperature. While you wait, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. If you are making your own graham cracker pie crust, you can prepare it while the cheesecake ingredients warm up to room temperature. If you decide to use a spring form pan or pie pan that is larger than the typical 9' store-bought pie crust that comes in a small tin foil pan, be sure to increase not only the graham cracker pie crust recipe by 50%, but also the ingredients for the cheesecake.

Combining the Cheesecake Ingredients

Once you have your crust prepared, you are ready to mix the cheesecake ingredients together. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, the eggs, 3/4 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon of the vanilla. Beat these ingredients for 5 to 6 minutes, until the mixture is creamy and well-mixed. Pour into the crust.

Cooking the Cheesecake

Pop the cheesecake into the preheated oven, and bake for 25 minutes. If you increased the size of the pan, you will also need to increase the baking time to about 35 minutes. After this first round of baking, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for another 20 minutes. While it is cooling, combine the sour cream with the 3 tablespoons of sugar and the remaining 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Pour this mixture over the first layer of the cooked cheesecake, and RETURN IT TO THE OVEN. Bake an additional 10 minutes. Now, you have finished baking your cheesecake. Remove the cheesecake from the oven and let it stand at least 10 more minutes before refrigerating it.

Chill the Cheesecake

One it has cooled off for a few minutes, chill the cheesecake in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours before serving. After it is thoroughly cooled, you may then want to add your own special toppings.

Easy Cheesecake Toppings

There are many delicious ways that you can top off your cheesecake. For example, you can slice fresh fruit on top, such as peaches, strawberries, kiwi, or even a combination of several fruits. You can also drench your cheesecake with fruit jam or canned fruit pie filling, such as cherry pie filling, which makes a fabulous cherry cheesecake. You can also simply add whipped cream and drizzle a little chocolate over the top. Whatever topping you choose, you will be able to serve a delightful and original cheesecake every time you make it!
