Tasty Cod Fish Recipes

Many people see cod as boring and are under the impression that it can only be steamed, poached or fried and then eaten n its own however this is not the case and there are several codfish recipes you can make. This species of fish is a tasty, nutritious and healthy fish that can be used as the staple part of many great dishes and it is, in my opinion, one of the best species of fish money can buy. So what are my top cod fish recipes and the ones I would recommend?

Baked in breadcrumbs

Baked cod in breadcrumbs is a great alternative to take away fish and chip shop fish. Fish covered in breadcrumbs and then baked is tasty, nutritious, healthy and doesn’t contain the amount of fat and calories of fish and chip shop fish, so it is good for the health conscious and those wanting to watch their weight.

The ingredients needed to make this baked fish in breadcrumbs include cod fillets, an egg, plain flour and breadcrumbs. The egg needs to be beaten until it turns white and foamy and then poured in to a flat bottomed bowl. The flour needs to be poured on to a tray and then seasoned with salt and pepper. The breadcrumbs need to be poured on to a separate tray.

In order to make this fantastic fish dish you simply take the fish fillets and dip in seasoned flour, dip in the beaten egg and then roll it around in the breadcrumbs, ensuring the whole fillet is covered with an even coat of breadcrumbs. Before you prepare the fish you should preheat the oven to two hundred degrees centigrade.

Once all the fish fillets are coated put on the baking tray and bake in the oven for fifteen to twenty minutes or until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown. Once cooked simply plate up and devour - delicious!

Cod fish recipes - Steamed oriental cod served on a bed of jasmine rice

In order to make steamed oriental cod served on a bed of jasmine rice you will need fish fillets, jasmine rice, some sesame oil, two fresh chillies, three cloves of garlic, an inch cube of root ginger, the juice of one lime, zest of one lime and twenty grams of coriander.

When preparing this steamed oriental fish recipe you need to blend the chillies, lemon grass, garlic, ginger and lime juice in a blender to form a nice thick paste. Next, you need to put add the zest and coriander and then blitz in the blender until everything is properly mixed.

Rub some the oil on to the pieces of fish and then apply  thick layer of paste all over. Put the fillets in a covered steamer and then steam over a pan of boiling water for ten minutes until the fish turns opaque.

Whilst the fish is steaming boil the jasmine rice, according to the instructions on the back of the packet, drain and then return to the pan. Take the pan off the heat, add the watercress, cover with a tea towel and leave to stand for five to ten minutes. Once the rice has been left to stand it will turn fluffy and light and the watercress should wilt. Stir the watercress in to the rice with a fork.

Lay the jasmine rice on a plate, put the cod fillets on top, garnish and devour. Now what could be easier than that?

This pan fried cod topped with cheese and tomato is a quick, easy, nutritious and very healthy dish that can be made in minutes, and what's more is that it is absolutely delicious.

In order to make the pan fried fish topped with cheese and tomato dish you are going to need two cod fillets, some olive oil, one hundred grams of light white cheese, two tablespoons of white wine, salt and pepper.

In order to make this dish you need to heat the olive oil in a pan. Season the fillets of fish with salt and pepper and then pan fry skin side down for three to four minutes or until the skin turns a golden brown colour. You need to ensure you don’t overcook and burn the cod fillets at this stage, so keep an eye on the pan at all times and don't leave on its own. 

Next, put the fillets in to an oven proof dish and bake for five minutes. Whilst baking you need to make the cheese and wine sauce, so put the cheese and wine in to a pan and gently heat on the hob, stirring all the time. During this stage it is important not to use too much heat otherwise you risk burning the cheese and wine.

After five minutes remove the fillets of fish from the oven and put the sliced tomato on top of it, pour the cheese and wine sauce over the top and then return to the oven and bake for eight to ten minutes or until the cheese topping turns a nice golden brown colour. Once cooked, remove the fillets from the oven and serve with a fresh green salad and devour.

There are many different cod fish recipes and my favourites, as above, barely scrape the surface. Cod is a very versatile fish that can be used in a variety of different dishes. This species doesn’t have to be eaten on its own and neither does it have to be steamed or poached on its own. If the above recipes don’t do anything for you do some research and seek out some other fish recipes, you won’t be disappointed.

I simply love these recipes tried a few of them and they are great I'm tryin to eat healthier I hear fish is one of the healthest things you can eat I'll be trying a few more of these recipes as they come along I also found some cool recipes @ codfishrecipes.org thanks for the recipes
