One thing these easy Fourth of July desserts have in common is the color theme. Red, white and blue are the centerpiece for these desserts, as these are our country’s colors. If you are like me and do not eat artificial colors, you can get natural alternatives online or at your local Whole Foods supermarket.

Easy Fourth of July Desserts

4th of July cake pan

American Flag Cake

This classic dessert has been around forever. You can bake the cake from a box mix or your favorite scratch recipe. The same can be said for the frosting-make your own or buy it already made.

Yellow or white cake baked in a rectangular pan

White frosting

Strawberries, sliced thin

When the cake is cooled, frost the cake with the white icing. Place the blueberries in the upper left corner for the field of blue. Make red “stripes” with sliced strawberries.

whipped cream. If you use strawberry gelatin, top with sliced strawberries. If you used raspberry gelatin, top with raspberries. Add blueberries to either one.

Patriotic Pudding Pie

Keebler Pie Shell-any flavor

Chocolate or Vanilla instant pudding mix (plus ingredients to make it)-your choice of flavor

Whipped topping-8 ounce size

Red and Blue food coloring

Prepare the pudding according to the package directions. Pour into empty pie shell and put into the refrigerator to chill. When the pudding is set, pour on whipped topping. Drop a few dots of red and blue food coloring and swirl gently with a knife until you have a red, white and blue marbled effect.

Red, White and Blue Pinwheel Cookies

Want a cookie with pizzazz that can be made ahead of time? This recipe for Play Dough Cookies was found on a great mommyblog I follow called “The Secret of Success is Support”. Instead of using pastel colors, use red and blue and leave the other batter without coloring. To make the fourth ball of dough, I would alternate which cookie got two of the same color.

To make this cookie even more of a dessert treat, I would stick in lollipop sticks and make giant cookie lollipops. It can easily be made into a centerpiece by placing the sticks in floral foam inside a planter.
