Another Quick and Easy Recipe for Kids

This is the fourth recipe in the Easy Kid Recipes Series. Today, we will be making a dessert that you can serve to your family; one you will make with a little help from mom or dad. Cooking with someone else makes cooking even more fun.

Easy Kid Recipes – Banana Pudding

Here is a little bit of interesting information about bananas:

Wonderfully sweet with firm and creamy flesh, bananas come prepackaged in their own yellow jackets and are available for harvest throughout the year.

The banana plant grows 10 to 26 feet and belongs to the same family as the lily and the orchid.

The cluster of fruits contain anywhere from 50 to 150 bananas with individual fruits grouped in bunches, known as "hands," containing 10 to 25 bananas.”[3993]

Bananas are a healthy fruit you can enjoy by themselves, sliced in your morning cereal, added to a peanut butter sandwich, or included in a recipe, like this Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding Recipe.

Let's Cook

Step 1:

Nillia Wafers in Bowl – For Banana Pudding Recipe

Open the package of Nilla Wafers (also called vanilla wafers), and place a single layer of the cookies in the bottom of the serving dish. Stand cookies up on the inside of the dish, all around the sides.

Step 2:

Bananas on Top of Nilla Wafers – Easy Kid Recipes – Banana Pudding
Peel 3 bananas, and put them on a dinner plate. After peeling the bananas, wash your hands.

WARNING: Even though you will be using a dinner table knife, it is a knife, so use caution when using it. And only use a knife when your mom or dad is there to show you the proper way to use and handle a knife. Or, assign the job of slicing the bananas to your assistant chef (mom or dad).

Using the dinner knife, cut the bananas crosswise, making ½ inch thick slices. Place a layer of the sliced bananas on top of the Nilla Wafers in the bottom of the dish.

Note: If the bananas are small, you may need to use 4 bananas.

Step 3:

Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding Recipe – Mixing Up the Pudding Mix
Open the package of banana pudding mix. Use the scissors to cut off the end of the package, and empty the dry mix into the mixing bowl. Next, using the measuring cup, measure the 2 cups of milk. Pour the milk into the bowl, and with a hand mixer, or whisk, mix until they are thoroughly blended, and the pudding is getting thick. Using the large spoon, scoop approximately ½ of the pudding out of the bowl and on top of the bananas. Use the back of the spoon to spread and to smooth the top of the pudding.

Step 4:

Step 6:

Banana Pudding Recipe – Refrigerate Before Serving

Spoon the remainder of the pudding on top of the banana slices. And once again, spread and smooth the pudding out using the back of the large spoon. Cover the bowl, and place your Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding into the refrigerator. It will be ready to be served in about an hour.

Step 7:

Time to Clean Up – After Your Easy Kid Recipes
Now, it is time to clean the kitchen. If, by any chance, any pudding remains on the spoon, then it must be licked off!!! If you used a mixer, then return it to where it is kept, and put the scissors back where they belong. All the other dishes need to be placed in the dishwasher, or they need to be washed by hand. The banana peelings can be taken to the composter, and the pudding box put in the recycle bin. As a final step, be sure to wipe off the cabinet top where you have been working.

In Closing

Serving your yummy dessert is easy. Take out a small bowl for each serving, and using a large spoon, simply dip out a serving, and place it in each dish. As an additional treat, if you have whipped cream, add a little spoon of it on top.

This looks really good and sounds so much better than just the regular pudding in a box. I will have to give it a try sometime soon. My kids would probably love this.
