Easy Steps To Learn Candle Making At Home
There are a number of people who love the artistry of candle making at home, and not only take it up as a hobby, but also as a source of financial gain. Whether you choose to make it a business or simply wish to enjoy the art of candle making at home, there are a few principles to be followed in order to make the finished product a success. First of all, you'll need to get all the essential ingredients and tools together, and what other items are required, you can buy them from a craft store. The most important item needed is the wax, besides other tools and ingredients like a double boiler, thermometer, moulds, dye, scented oil, a whisk and wicks.
When purchasing the wax, there are many different forms of wax to choose from, such as soy wax, paraffin wax, beeswax, etc. The most common form of wax used to make candles is paraffin; however, if you wish to use a more eco-friendly form of wax, you can choose either soy wax, or beeswax. The first step is to heat the wax in your double boiler. While heating the wax, make sure that the temperature does not go over 180° Fahrenheit.
However, it is important that the wax when heated should be completely liquefied. Once this is done, add the selected dye to the wax after it has been liquefied, and mix them both together with the whisk. When you're satisfied with the wax color, you can add the amount of scented oil you want and once more, using the whisk, mix them both together thoroughly.
Then lower the temperature of the wax to 150° Fahrenheit, using a thermometer to check it. Next, with extreme care pour the hot wax into your candle moulds after the temperature has been reduced. Take great care to set the wicks in the middle of each mould with wax. Keep the moulds aside for a minimum of five hours to allow the candles to cool down completely, and then remove them.
After you've mastered the art of candle making at home, you're now ready to use your creativity skills and produce your own hand-crafted candles. If your children wish to help you in making candles, make sure they are safe and, in no way, get burned. Whether you decide to start your own candle making at home business, or make it a hobby, you will surely find it an enjoyable and interesting experience.
