Thanksgiving appetizers are a great and easy way to buy time to complete all the tasks and food preparations that come with a festive Thanksgiving dinner and can help you to tame the hungry crowd while they wait for the main course to be prepared. These easy thanksgiving appetizer ideas can be changed up or added to in order to suit your guests taste preferences.

Cheese Platters

It may be surprising to see just how much your guests will enjoy a platter that features a selection tasty cheeses. Simply place cubes of your favorite cheeses on a platter - you can place a toothpick in each one individually or place a small container of toothpicks next to the platter to make them easier to pick up without having to use ones fingers.

Cracker Appetizers

These days you can find crackers in an assortment of shapes, brands and flavors. Consider placing a tray featuring several selections of cracker options for everyone to snack on. These can be nibbled on plain or you can put them out along side some sliced cheese,  cracker spreads, dips or a delicious cheeseball for a bit more appetizing variety.

Veggie Trays

A tray full of bite size chunks or slices of your favorite vegetables (often 4 or 5 different types of veggies)  can be a simple and easy thanksgiving appetizer to put together. These can also be bought pre-cut and ready to serve at most grocery stores. Serve them up with a ranch or veggie dip and you have a delicious tide-em-over until dinner is done. (The kids in our house enjoy strips of celery filled with peanut butter!)

Fruit Snacks

Fruit can be  tasty, healthy and easy thanksgiving appetizers. Put out a selection of fruits as a starter for guests to snack on while they wait for the rest of the turkey day feast to be completed. Some fruit slices, such as apples, can go great when accompanied by a fruit dip. An easy one to make simply requires mixing your favorite jelly with plain cream cheese.

Chips and Dip

As simple as it sounds - a bag, bowl or tray of chips with a side of chip dip can make for an easy, yet appealing, appetizer. You can feature a plain tortilla chip with salsa or several different choices of chips and dips and let the guests decide what they want to include in their first course.

Deviled Eggs

Simple to make and almost always enjoyed. Deviled eggs are small appetizers that pack a lot of flavor using few and simple ingredients. These are a must have at our dinner table and one sure to be appreciated at yours.

Saucy Meatballs

Meatballs can easily be made up the night before Thanksgiving and reheated in the crockpot in no time which makes them an ideal hors d’oeuvre, especially for the meat eaters at the table. There are several wonderful meatball recipes that can be served up that would make an appetizing before dinner snack. These can be left in the crockpot with a serving utensil for guests to serve themselves up or placed in a shallow dish with some toothpicks on the side to make selection easier.

There are many other options that can be served up as pre-dinner starters on Thanksgiving including breads and spreads as well as many others. There are no real rules to abide by and no taboo dishes that can not be served. Have fun, remember that these can also be added as thanksgiving  side dishes at dinner and make it a personal tradition by preparing easy thanksgiving appetizers that you will want to continue offering for holidays to come.
