Easy Ways We Can All Go Green Every Day

By Edited May 8, 2014 0 1

Believe it or not this year marks the 40th anniversary of the very first Earth Day. Earth Day was created for the world to recognize or become aware of our environment. Changing laws about how we treat the environment will certainly have the biggest impact towards improving the way we treat our environment; there are also other ways we can all make an impact. These are several tips you can help to Go Green every day.

a)      Make certified organic coffee each morning

b)      Turn off the water while you brush your teeth in the morning. Running the tap while we brush our teeth for two minutes saves five gallons of water each day.

c)       Don’t use Styrofoam cups when taking your coffee on the go. Use reusable cups from your home.

Instead of using a Styrofoam or plastic cup, use a refillable coffee cup every morning. Some coffee shops will offer refillable cups. Not only will you help save your environment, but you can also refill at a discount.

d)      When you are working at your computer at the office use the sleep mode. If you are away from your computer for more than 20 minutes, let it sleep to conserve energy.

e)      Bring your own bag when you grocery shop. Don’t use paper or plastic bags at the store, bring your own reusable bag

f)       Turn off electronics at home. Use power strips for electronics that take the most energy such as your printer, computer, DVD, player and related items. Turn off the power strip when not using these electronics to save energy. This will protect them as well as save energy.

g)      Kids using computer games at home will use tons of energy. Let them also use power strips for the video game and television. Turning these items off at the power strip when not in use will save the average household about $100 every year.

h)      There are 11 states in our nation that have redeemable cans and bottle laws. Redeeming cans and bottles area wonderful way to help the environment as well as letting the kids earn extra money.

i)        Combine errands during the day and the week. If you are able to combine several errands during the week into one or even two you can save gas in addition to keeping your car off the road which will help the environment with emissions from your vehicle.

j)        Use cold water for washing clothes when possible. There are washing detergents specially formulated to help with this.

k)      Hang clothes out to dry instead of using the dryer when possible. Not only do they smell better, you can conserve tons of energy

These are several ways that you can give every day to aiding with the environment and Going Green. These are small impacts that each of us can make every day that can combine to make a large impact with saving the environment for future generations.
