If you've decided to make homemade dog treats, you have just made the one decision that may actually save your dog's life. It's no secret that many dogs have died or suffered needlessly due to tainted dog food and treats.

Of course this doesn't apply to all foods or treats available, but when it comes to our beloved pets, why take the chance when you can be absolutely sure of the nutrients your best friend is really getting in their food.

One of the best ways we can help our dogs live healthy, active lives for as long is possible is by closely monitoring their nutritional intake. Homemade dog food recipes are one solution to making sure you know exactly what you are giving your pet to eat every day.

Many of these recipes for homemade dog treats are incredibly easy to prepare, contain all-natural ingredients, and are without the usual additives, chemicals, and preservatives that are usually found in commercially made dog foods.

One of the first homemade dog treats to try out on your four-legged friend is a delicious mixture of chicken, rice, and potatoes.

You will need:

- 2 skinless chicken breasts or large thighs
- 1 stalk of celery, sliced
- 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 3 carrots, peeled and halved
- 1 pinch of salt
- 2 cups uncooked rice
- 5 to 6 cups water

In a large stock pot, cover the chicken with the cold water, adding the celery, potatoes, carrots, and a pinch of salt. Simmer on low heat for about two hours until the chicken is soft and tender. Keeping the heat on low, add the rice and simmer again for another half hour or so until the rice is cooked and has absorbed most of the water.

Remove the chicken from the bone in small, shredded pieces, then add it back to the pot of ingredients, stirring thoroughly and allowing to cool completely before feeding your dog.

Homemade dog food recipes that contain beef are also sure to have your dog drooling.

For this recipe you will need:

- About two pounds of ground beef
- 2 cups brown rice
- 2 cups broccoli stalks, chopped
- 3 potatoes, cubed

Brown the ground meat in a frying pan, while boiling water for the broccoli and rice. When the ground meat is browned, add the potatoes, then the broccoli and rice together until cooked, then combine with the meat. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Homemade dog treats are extra tasty made with a delectable gravy for dogs. For this quick and easy to make recipe you will need one boneless, skinless chicken breast, four cups of water, one cup flour, and two beaten eggs.

Boil the chicken breast until tender, usually about a half hour, and remove the meat from the water. Add the flour to the chicken broth, thoroughly blending to avoid lumps, and then blending in the beaten eggs.

Cook on medium heat until the mixture has thickened to the consistency of gravy, then add the cooked chicken that can be pureed or shredded. Cool completely and refrigerate the leftovers, if there are any.

You can also make dog treats for delicious desserts too! Mix together a 32 ounce container of vanilla yogurt with two tablespoons of peanut butter, a favorite of most dogs, one mashed banana, and a jar of fruity baby food.

It doesn't get much simpler these home cooked dog food recipes that are sure to be a real hit with your precious pooch, and also be good for their health at the same time.
