A destination wedding to San Diego, or any other popular location, is a big event, and many couples often combine both honeymoon and wedding into the trip. However, as convenient as that is, the wedding event in itself takes a lot of preparation for everyone, down to the most simple matters, such as selecting the San Diego Wedding DJ. But most significantly, the pressure falls on whomever is planning the wedding. The tips below were designed with that fact in mind, as well as the comfort and sanity of all those involved; it's not easy planning the big day, but we can get you through it, one step at a time!

  1. The preparations for this event are going to be taxing; if you've purchased a "package deal" for your destination wedding, then in the assistance department, you're covered. However, if you are working on your own for your San Diego wedding, then hire a wedding planner ahead of time. Allocate around ten percent of your budget towards the planner, and most importantly, find one as soon as possible, and with a large amount of discretion; interview, and don't make snap decisions.
  2. Scout the area; this isn't war, it's a wedding, but the need for a battle plan is similar. Without proper prep work, the potential for disaster increases exponentially. Cover these steps: hire transportation to and from SAN, the San Diego Airport, and if necessary, to and from the wedding and reception areas, insist all drivers know the route; make them test drive it. Also, it's convenient and conscientious if you give each guest a map of the city. Many of the guests may want to enjoy the city, and are staying past the wedding. This should all be done pre-wedding trip, so travel to San Diego ahead of time to make these arrangements.
  3. While you're on the "pre-trip", familiarize yourself with the vendors your wedding planner has arranged; if no arrangements have been made, make them now. Always be thorough; ask pertinent questions regarding the vendor's or caterer's abilities to serve your specific number of guests, take any language barriers into account, and be courteous. Remember to send thank you notes, and favor, or gift baskets to the vendors as well; without their help, your day wouldn't have been such a success.
  4. Bring the professionals you'll need on the scene, on your budget, and from your own area; your photographer, planner/coordinator, hair and make-up people, and anyone else necessary. Hire for music, or browse a selection of San Diego wedding DJs when you are on the pre-trip, and be sure to book in advance.
  5. Make sure everyone knows ahead of time that the wedding will take place in San Diego. If that's far from your hometown, and out of the way for many guests, or your bridal part, don't be hurt or angry if people cannot attend. Not everyone can afford to go on your vacation.
  6. San Diego is very warm, almost all year around; keep that in mind when you select your gown, and bridesmaids' gowns as well as taking time to let all other guests know what to wear, if your coordinator has not already taken the time to do so. Make sure the rest of your clothing is packed to match the weather. Don't forget to organize your packing in general to be efficient; you have enough on your mind already without worrying about forgetting something.
  7. Arrange for a courier; you will most likely have tons of gifts, and depending on a variety of factors, you might need anything from a car, to a U-Haul truck to get everything back. Make sure your wedding coordinator has discussed this with you.
  8. Make sure every guest feels appreciated; place a basket in each hotel room with a small gift, as well as some essentials for their stay, such as sunscreen, fun wedding favors, and treats to remind them of the beautiful city of San Diego.
