Electric Deep Fryers - Every Home Cook's Best Friend
An electric deep fryer is a convenient way for the home cook to deep fry small foods quickly. The type of foods that you would want to fry are usually appetizers like chicken wings, french fries, onion rings, or even desserts like donuts and funnel cakes. Most often, it can be messy and dangerous to try to cook these foods at home so they are reserved as an occasional treat for eating out. However, with an electric deep fryer in your kitchen, cooking up delicious restaurant styled fast foods is easy, quick, and pain free.
There are different kinds of electric deep fryers available from Presto, T-Fal, or many other name brands. Choosing the right kind will depend on what kinds of foods you want to cook and how much you plan on cooking in one batch. Simple deep fryers work by just turning on a switch and have automatic temperature control. More sophisticated electric deep fryers have different temperature settings, filtration systems, and maybe even two baskets for cooking up larger amounts of food at the same time. There are even commercial deep fryers that can be installed in your own home if you plan on cooking enormous amounts of fried food every day.
So before you buy a fryer it is important to read various electric deep fryer reviews to find out what the different functions and features are. You will also want to spend a minute going through the instruction manual. Don't assume you know everything, each type of deep fryer is different from the cooking times to the types of oil that can be used. If you don't know what you are doing, you could easily overload your deep fryer and cause a dangerous grease fire in your home.
For the general home cook who just wants to fry up small portions of appetizers, I would recommend a smaller 4 person serving size deep fryer. These are great for finger foods and donuts. Plus, they use very little oil, usually under 2 cups so you can save money on cooking oil. Another bonus is that smaller electric deep fryers for the home will also heat up in less time making it easier to get a good cooking temperature. An even hot temperature is essential to cooking up light crispy fried food. If you buy a fryer with an underpowered heating element, the oil will not be hot enough and all your foods will come out soggy and laden with grease.
However, if you plan on using your deep fryer more than just once in a blue moon then I suggest that you get a larger capacity deep fryer. The best electric deep fryers for this purpose will have at least a 6 person capacity and preferably two immersion baskets. With two baskets you can cook up two foods at once even if they have different cooking times. If you need to deep fry a larger food like a chicken or fish, just remove the two baskets and you will have a large deep fryer right on your counter top.
No matter what size fryer you buy, modern electric deep fryers have many safety mechanisms built in to ensure your safety and minimize burning and fire hazards. Look for trip safe power cords that disconnect automatically and a touch safe outer surface that remains cool to the touch. Now deep frying can be a joy rather than a greasy nightmare like back in your grandmother's day.

Wow - good to hear these things have improved. I only remember the greasy nightmare like back in my grandmother’s day. Maybe time to reconsider this.
