We all want to save money, and you can save money when you install and use electrical timer switches. Have your lights come on and go off when you want them to, whether you are home or not. Why spend the money to have lights burn all day when you only need and want them on when it starts to get dark. Installing lighting timers will not only save you money, but they will also save energy, thereby helping our environment, and they can also help to prevent your home from being burglarized.

Some of these devices are so sophisticated in design that they can even adjust themselves to daylight savings time. Let’s talk more in-depth about these switches and what they can do for you and your family.

Electrical Timer Switches That Plug Into An Outlet

The plug in style is what many of us have and use in our homes. They are the ones we plug our lamps into to have them come on and go off at designated times. We count on these when we are away from home to turn lights on and off as if someone was at home. Therefore, they offer some protection against burglary. Some of these timers are more sophisticated than others in that you can program different on and off times for different days of the week.

In addition to the indoor variety, you can also purchase outdoor ones that will work with your outdoor lighting. These are particularly helpful when you have outdoor holiday lighting displays.

The plug in style is usually inexpensive to buy, and since you just program and plug them in, there is no installation expense.

Electrical Timer Switches That Replace A Light Switch

These are the pièce de résistance of switches. Replace your wall switch with one of these, and you can do just about everything dealing with turning on and turning off your indoor and outdoor lights.

When you go online to shop for one of these electrical devices, you will be able to compare what they will and will not do. For instance, some will automatically adjust to daylight savings time. Some offer more ways to program when your lights come on and go off. Or you can use a setting that will turn your lights on at dusk and off at dawn. Another program option is to be able to set different times for different days of the week. However, not all of the wall switches are designed to perform all of these functions.

These are typically more expensive to purchase than the plug in models, and you will need to hire a certified electrician to do the installation for you.

In Closing

As you can see, installing and using these lighting timers can help you control how much electricity you use, and help you to save money each month on your electricity bill.

So, if you like coming home to a well lit house, both inside and outside, then you will want to look into installing electrical timer switches for added home security, safety and your convenience.

Great review. We always keep a light on a timer in the living room. I hate entering a dark house at night, and a dark house also seems like an invitation to thieves.

This is a refreshing article, and really takes the mystique out of electric timers. Thanks!
