Assembling Gadgets & Technology

Electronics are a popular holiday gift, but are often accompanied by confusing directions, lots of small parts and a myriad of wires and cords.  Don’t let the confusion keep you from enjoying your new toy.  The following are a few tips and tricks to help you enjoy your holiday electronic gifts without the stress:

  • When assembling your new electronic device, be sure to read all directions carefully.  It may seem like a simple piece of advice, but directions are there for a reason.  Read through them in their entirety before beginning assembly and make sure you understand each and every step.  This will make it easier as you go through step by step.
  • If you find that you are having difficulty with assembly, most electronic devices offer a support email, telephone number or web address where you can find helpful information and answers to frequently asked questions.
  • Another great resource for assembling your new electronic items is the store from which they were purchased.  If the item was bought from a large electronic store, they often have a support team who can help you in-store or even come to your home to help with installation.  These services often cost a little money, but the hassle-free aspect may be worth the money.
  • If you find that you are missing device components, contact the store where the item was purchased.  Chances are they’ll either replace the item or direct you as to where you can purchase the necessary parts.  If they give you the specific name of the part, you can check online for a cable manufacturer who may offer the item at a lower price than in-stores.  Just be sure you’re ordering the right part or you’ll find yourself in the same situation as you were before.
  • The internet is a great resource for finding helpful hints on electronic installation and assembly.  Simply doing a search for the product or problem you are having may result in hundreds of helpful links with tips and solutions from individuals who have encountered similar problems.
  • Finally, finding someone who has the same device that you have is a great way to get some help with installation trouble. Call them up and let them know the trouble you are having.  Chances are they’ll be able to help, if not, they may be able to direct you to someone who can.
