The New Amazon Kindle is creating quite a stir as a good alternative to the iPad and the iPhone. The Kindle is a 3G Wireless reading device manufactured by Amazon. The Kindle has many high powered and useful features that make it a feasible alternative to more expensive e-reading devices. The most recent addition to the Kindle line, offers some much-needed upgrades that allow for a greater user experience. At the same time, it still has some way to go in its development before it becomes a perfect, system. Some of the best functions of the new Amazon Kindle include:

  • Easy to use keyboard search: Use this feature to search within a book, in the Kindle store, on the web or across your library resources. The web search feature is only available to customers in the U.S. at present.
  • Bookmarking and Annotation: Use the QWERTY keyboard to add annotations just like you would in the margins of a book you were reading. Notes made in annotation are editable and exportable. The Kindle also automatically remembers where you left off in your reading
  • The Kindle has the ability to share meaningful quotes and passages. Use this feature to post your quotes and meaningful passages directly to your social networking sites.
  • It has a “popular” highlights feature. Use this feature to find out what’s popular among the millions of other Kindle readers.
  • Built-in Dictionary and Search Feature: The New Oxford American Dictionary helps you look up the meaning of over 250,000 words. By moving the cursor over the word, the definition will automatically pop up. This solves the problem of never moving past a word you don’t understand without looking it up. It is a great way to get smart fast.
  • It has wireless access to online information encyclopedias like Wikipedia. You can easily look up any information accessible through those websites with just a flip of the cursor.
  • The New Kindle has an improved PDF Reader. Read you PDF documents with more ease and access to the PDF features.
  • The New Kindle has the ability to upload personal documents. According to Amazon.com, “Kindle supports wireless delivery of unprotected Microsoft Word (DOC, DOCX), PDF, HTML, TXT, RTF, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, PRC and MOBI files. Some complex PDF and DOCX files might not format correctly on your Kindle.”
  • It has a password protection feature. This new feature allows you to lock your Kindle so only you can access the information on it.
