Embossed Business Cards - Worth The Expense?
Embossed business cards are amongst some of the most interesting business cards that are available today. The biggest advantage of an emboss business card is its ability to stand out. It looks different. It feels different. Better still, it evokes that "hey cool!" reaction that all business owners hope for. After all, if your business card is able to make a greater impression on your prospective clients, then the more likely it is to achieved its desired result (gain new business clients).
But what can you emboss? Well, you can emboss your business logo or any other shape that you can think of. You're only limited by your own creativity. Embossed business cards even come with some customization options. For instance, you can blind emboss, in which the image is simply raised. Another option is to do embossing with ink which involves coating the raise area with color. And there is foil embossing as well, which basically provides a shiny new metallic coat over the image.
That said, there are a couple of drawbacks to custom embossed business cards.
Firstly, there is the additional expense to think about. Due to the custom design and huge amount of effort that is required, there will be considerable additional expense in embossing business cards as compared to other available options. Also, it is not possible to produce them quickly. For most people, this may not be a big deal since the extra response your card generates can easily outweigh the expense.
Secondly, it is not recommended to print on the back of foil embossed business cards for obvious reasons. Advocates of double sided cards may be deterred by this.
Lastly, an embossed business card usually comes with lesser flexibility and lesser room for content, which in turn limit the information on your card to just the basic contact information. For some people, this is fine, but for those who want to add additional content and images, they may find that an embossed business card may not be the best option.
What your decision should come down to is this:
Is the idea that you have for your embossed business card creative and attention grabbing enough to justify it as an option? Will embossing your business logo, for instance, bring you the reaction you're looking for? Or are there other options (such as 3d lenticular cards, plastic business cards, die cut cards, etc.) allow you to be unique while offering you greater flexibility and opportunity to stand out, without limiting your business card's content?
Ultimately, as long as you are fixating your sight on the main goal of drumming up new business, your decision will definitely be the correct one.
