Many people are well aware of the importance of detoxifying their bodies, and they make sure to detoxify their bodies whenever possible. But did you know that it is just as important to clear out and detoxify your mind on a regular basis? Even if you consistently take care of your body by eating healthy food, drinking lots of water and getting plenty of exercise, this article will give you a step by step plan for spending a day (or more than one day, if you prefer) detoxifying your mind and your spirit. After all, if you are emotionally overburdened, this does not bode well for your physical health either. We now understand that there is a strong correlation between excessive amounts of stress and a wide variety of illnesses and conditions.

When you want to detoxify your mind, your first step is to reduce the level of information overload that nearly all of us in the modern world experience on a daily basis. This means giving yourself at least a day (or preferably even longer) in which you do not read the newspaper or get online or watch television or listen to the radio. While it is great to be informed, there is also such a thing as being overwhelmed by too much information. 

After a few hours of peacefully not being bombarded by too much information and input from the media, your next step is to clear your mind using meditation and deep breathing techniques. Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and focus all of your attention on repeating one simple phrase such as “Peace” over and over again. 

After completing these first two steps, your third step for detoxifying your mind is to get some physical exercise. The exercise can be either moderate or vigorous, depending on your preference. If possible, try to go outside for your exercise by taking a brisk walk or going on a run or a bike ride. The fresh air has a very healing and soothing effect and can significantly help you in your effort to detoxify your mind. 

Make sure that everything you turn your attention to during your day of detoxifying your mind is positive and helps to promote your overall sense of well being. In other words, focus on positive thoughts and feelings and if you feel a negative thought sneaking in, turn your attention back to a more positive one.
