The endocrine glands are the pituitary, thyroid, adrenal, thymus, pancreas, ovaries, and testes. This endocrine glands releases small amounts of hormones into the bloodstream that contols varvious organs of the body.An endocrine disruptor are man made Synthetic chemical like diethylstilbesterol ( DES), dioxin, PCBs, DDT,plasticizers and some other pesticides that get in to our body and blocks hormones and disrupts the body's normal functions.
Endocrine disruptor chemicals do not dissolve or breakdown in water so they cannot be excreted from the body instead they become lodged in the body's fatty tissue and accumulate over time entire life span .Accelerated puberty in young girls and trans gender phenomenon are increasing rapidly.Infants, children and developing fetuses are more vulnerable to endocrine disruptors exposure.
Plastic bottles used for water and beverage and baby bottles contained substances known as phthalates. These chemicals can leach into the beverage, particularly when the bottle is subjected to heat, or when the beverage is acidic. Phthalates are now considered to be potent endocrine disruptors.Studies have shown endocrine disruptors are reposible declining alligator population in Lake Apopka, Florida. Alligators were found to have endocrine disrupting chemicals in their bodies and eggs due to large pesticide spill that happened several years earlier.Similary fish-eating birds in the Great Lakes area, such as eagles, terns, and gulls, have shown similar dysfunctions as the Great Lakes area was contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other man-made chemicals.Reproductive problems as well as abnormal swelling of the thyroid glandswere reported on people living in this areas. The youngsters of the fish-eating mothers weighed less at birth, had smaller heads, and achieved lower scores on IQ tests.
In 2000 Washington Post reported that scientists have found male fish from Potomac River looked suspiciously like females. Their sex organs were not producing sperm. As many as 80 percent of the male fish collected displayed this abnormality - they had become feminized.Scientists suspected that pollution in the river must have had something to do with it.
A synthetic estrogen diethylstilbestrol (DES) so called miracle drug were prescribed by doctors in 50s and 60s to prevent miscarriages to pregnant women. But to doctors surprise they found it caused health problems for many of these women's children with birth defects of the uterus, ovaries, and immune system.including spontaneous abortions, premature births and miscarriages. Undescended testicles and malformed sperm in boys, immune system defects, sexuality issues, chronic depression and other psychiatric disorders were reported.
Since each year more chemicals hits the market which may contains endocrine interfering properties kindly follow the precation listed below ,
