The Trinity

We have seen how God has manifested His Love towards us by playing three different roles as we re-connect to Him. God, during the process of bringing us back to where He actually intended for us, Showed or rather took responsibility in three different roles. Though distinct in personality, yet one person.

One issue with God is the fact that there is still a lot about Him yet to be revealed and he has clearly stated in His word that the ones revealed unto us are more than enough for our salvation. Maybe when we get to Heaven we might ask more questions and one of the very ambiguous teachings of His is the issue of the Trinity.

Deut 29: 29: "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law."

So, if you are a christian and you believe, it is what is revealed unto us that we should hold unto and pass to our children's children. But asides that, the essence of been Christians is the fact we enjoy His adoption as His sons and daughters... Knowing Him in so much details isn't necessary as we will either get confused or lose our faith in Him. Take this verse for instance..

2 Peter 3:8: "But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day." How on earth can we explain this? Which mathematical formula will elaborate what actually the Lord means here? This is the kind of being He is and if you want to spend time studying Him outside His revelation, you are simply wasting your time. So, what this article will do is to the extent of His revelation, explain His existence.

Models of Trinity

There are some christian theology which disapprove of the Doctrine of the Trinity and the reason they give is "There is no word such as the trinity in the Bible".. Really? Yes! They are correct on the fact, there is no such word in the Bible, but what we acknowledge isn't the word, but rather its significance. Just as there is no such thing as "Christmas" In the Bible, does that mean we should not celebrate it? What is the essence of celebrating Christmas? The birth of Jesus right? Now, let's consider this Bible verse:

Luke 2: 8-15: "And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.

Can we tell why the Angels were celebrating? Was it because they saw the Shepherds? Absolutely NO! They celebrated because of the good news of the birth of the Saviour, Jesus Christ. If the Host of Heaven celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ, how much more of us who even need his birth the more? We are the reason for His birth because without it, there would never be His death and without His death there would be no redemption to man. So, if we decide not to celebrate Christmas, it is not a sin, but it will be totally inappropriate to discourage others from celebrating it.

Back to the Trinity, it is never mentioned in the Bible, but when we go through a series of Bible verses, we will discover its reality in the God-realm. It is definitely difficult to assimilate how three persons can function as one or one person can function as three! Well, that is one of God's puzzles on Man's intellect and Wisdom, but here is a Model which can help us understand to the level we need to understand about the trinity.

The Model of Water and Fire

Take for instance a person lights fire from a lighter, uses it to light up a gas cooker burner, still use the same fire from the lighter to burn some refuse and finally uses it to light a candle stick, how can we evaluate this? It is still the same fire from the same lighter, but now functioning in three different ways (cooking, burning and lighting candle). Can we say it is now three different fire(s)?

Likewise Water; a young lady with a 50 Liter container of water fetches a portion to bath, another portion to drink and another to cook, how can we evaluate this situation? It is still the same water, but used simultaneously in three different forms (one to bath, the other to drink and the last to cook). We cannot say they are now three different water(s) can we?

No wonder, God in His infinite Wisdom and Power gave Lexicographers the understanding of not pluralizing the nouns "Water" and "Fire". What is the plural form of Fire? Is it Fires? No, it is still fire. What about Water? It is still water. 'Waters' is only used in Poetry. So, if we understand this Model and approach, we will have an idea of how the trinity functions! One in three persons and yet not Pluralized!

The Trinity

three in one

The Trinity

Genesis 1: 26:"Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

From the Biblical passage above, God said 'Let us Make man....' Meaning He was in dialogue with persons considered as colleagues, mates or with equal Authority. Was God speaking with the Angels?

" You alone created the heavens and the earth. ... and prayed to the LORD, "LORD
of Armies, God of Israel, you are enthroned over the angels. ..." [2kings 19:15; Isaiah 37:16].

He created the Angels and enthroned over them, hence it cannot be the Angels God is referring to. But from the previous episodes of this Biblical love series, we can see that God manifested His love to us through three persons, functioning in three forms having three distinct responsibilities. The other two are:

The son
John 1: 1-9:"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world."

This light which gives light to every Man, came to the World and He is Jesus Christ. This passage records, He was at the beginning, He was with God and He is God. Are you a believer and you believe in the word? The Bible says, He is God! Also let's consider another portion of the Bible

Hebrews1:1-14: "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father?

Or again,

“I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.” In speaking of the angels he says, “He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.” But about the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." He also says, “In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.”To which of the angels did God ever say, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?"

The Holy spirit

Genesis 1:2: "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."

We can see that the Holy spirit existed even before the very beginning, He hovers over the waters.

What is the significance of these passages? We can deduce that the other two entities of the God Head were never God's creation, but rather existed even before the beginning. They existed even before He (God) began His creation. The next question is, Is existing before the creation evident enough for equality in Authority? The Answer is, YES! Since they existed before the beginning and were not part of a creation, when God said 'Let us' He was referring to Himself in these two other entities. But for more clarity on this equality in Authority, here is a Bible passage:

Matthew 28: 18-20: "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Jesus has proclaimed all Authority given unto Him and what happened next? He gave an instruction with that Authority, not just in His name now, but in the name of the three entities having this Authority given unto Him in Heaven and on Earth. If this is the case, the God Head consists of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Trinity Again

significance of the trinity

Their active Role in our Salvation

After the Fall of Man, God wanted to re-connect with man, but the sacrifices of the blood of Animals wasn't sufficient enough for this, as Man being sinful goes back to sin again. This calls for a permanent cleansing with the perfect blood without stain, hence the birth and death of the Son. His resurrection entails, we will live again if we believe in Him. The son had gone up to be with the Father interceding on our behalf, but still we are left all alone to work in accordance to God's precepts. So, the Holy Spirit now takes the responsibility of guiding us and teaching us the ways of the Lord, helping us to commune with Him (Which was God's initial intention for Man). The trinity is in fact, of a huge significance to our salvation and redemption. And any believer who does not believe in it either hasn't adequately grasp the significance of God's love in His salvation, or is totally ignorant of God's Love in His salvation.

Love as an issue or topic is one of the most talked, discussed, appreciated, feared and controversial in our contemporary world of today. But is love really controversial? We will find out. Is love wicked as some people say? Does love hurt? Can we fall in love with more than one person? Can or should we love Material things? What about Loving Animals? Is love really blind? If it is, can I fall in love with my eyes Open? Sex and falling in Love, do they go hand in hand? All these questions would be answered one way or the other, directly or indirectly in this Book.

Biblical Love Psychology is the product of the understanding of the word of God from the Bible and as well the practical application of its Psychology; hence it is easily applicable and understandable irrespective of your belief. Lots of emphasis hits on Love itself, breaking it down into its stages, forms and levels and trying to differentiate these various stages of Love as distinct units. Take for instance, Love can be viewed in two categories, the horizontal (Man to man) and the vertical (God to man) and we will understand that The horizontal (Man to Man) exists with an initial step: THE ATTRACTION! But the vertical has no attraction in its initial phase because God loved us while we were yet sinners, doomed to die. This attraction could be blood (blood relations), romance (eros) or compatibility in likeness (Phileo-friendship).

This Book has explained explicitly the significance of the attraction, independent of Love (despite going hand in hand). It did not stop there, it is vivid in elaborating Love itself which is a deeper level and a soul to soul connect which is in by no means same as the initial step (the attraction). Despite all these wonderful revelations about Love, why do we have failed relationships today? Why are marriages not lasting up to 30 years as it used to be? Why do parents disown their children? Why are relationships so shallow, insignificant and treated like high-school courses where they come and go? A typical or an average young lady in her mid-20s should have experienced a minimum of 7 failed relationships in her life, is this supposed to be so? What about Love application to other phenomena such as material things, Money, Animals, what can we say about this? Despite the vertical kind of Love (God to man) being the AGAPE Love, does that mean man cannot exhibit this Agape? When a person adopts a child, this has definitely by-passed any form of attraction, because despite not being their blood (the attraction), the person adopts and loves this child, can we consider this Agape?

All these questions will be thoroughly answered and as well some doctrinal controversies such as: the doctrine of Hell (is it necessary since God loved us without any form of attraction?), the doctrine of the trinity, and the justification of disowning a child from the fact there is Hell, despite (God) showing us such immense love and many more issues.

So, as much as this basic psychological issue of Love is coming from the foundation of the Bible, it is applicable to everyone. I may not believe in Buddhism, but that doesn't stop me from enjoying any Buddhist Movie and even learn from it. There are lots of principles we can apply from this book into our love-relationships irrespective of our beliefs, so try to read it.

On a final note, we should be cautioned that this Book is not a relationship manual. This is far from it. This book is about Love and solely about Love, of which if we understand its basic principles can be applied to any form of relationships. Psychological tools like the Love graph, the perfect square formula are used to explicitly elaborate Love Psychology. Also, science is brought into the picture for us, to a large extent use critical thinking for the justification of the existence of God. If somewhere in our subconscious we believe in His existence, then we will appreciate the Agape Love better.
