Eyebrow Transplants

Eyebrows are a very important feature of the human face. They frame your face and in doing so determine a big portion of how our faces look in the mirror and to other people. They are in a very central position of our face and are therefore quite noticeable. When a person loses his eyebrows, you will notice this at a mere glance. It is not natural to lose your eyebrow hair, but you can still lose it in an accident. When this happens to you, you're not going to be very happy about it. People who have lost their eyebrow hairs complain about how their new look is cosmetically unacceptable.

It's possible for anybody to lose their eyebrow hairs. It can happen because you have a disfunctional thyroid, or you might develop the disease known as alopecea areata. You can also lose them through getting a tattoo in their near vicinity. Or you might get wounded and develop an infection near them. A burning accident will take care of your eyebrows pretty quickly. Or you may have been plucking them repeatedly. A small minority of people are genetically predisposed towards thinning eyebrow hairs as they age.

Eyebrow Transplants

Thanks to the advanced state of today's technology, it is possible to perform eyebrow transplants. These are performed using pretty much the same technology as with regular scalp hair transplants. But there are many differences between doing a hair transplant on top of the head and doing one above the eyes.

Firstly, your eyebrow hairs grow at a completely different angle than the hairs on your head do. They're much closer to your skin than your head hair is. Secondly, eyebrow hairs have much shorter growth cycles than head hairs do. Eyebrow hairs last at most a few months. But your head hair can grow for up to 5 years or longer. Thirdly, eyebrow hair points in a lot of different directions. Compare this to your head hair, which varies only slightly in direction from one area to the next. Fourthly, your eyebrow hairs grow in single strands only, whereas your head hair grows in groups of 1, 2, 3 and 4 hair follicles at a time.

All of these things make an eyebrow transplant so much harder than a regular hair transplant. It will require quite a lot of skill from a surgeon in order to give you natural looking eyebrows. The single hairs will have to be implanted as close to the skin as possible so they'll be growing sideways instead of outwards. This makes it such a precise chore that it's a relatively expensive procedure. Ofcourse, the small area that needs to be treated keeps the costs from getting out of hand completely!
