Facial Liposuction
Facial liposuction is a cosmetic procedure performed to enhance the appearance of the face by suctioning the excess fat that is usually stored below the chin. This fat is usually the reason why a person looks chubby. If a person has a double chin or jowls, with this procedure they can be significantly altered. The incision to remove the fat can be done from inside the mouth or right under the chin. This procedure is also used for a very small or receding chin. With this liposuction method, the face will become proportional through its reshaping. Without having to diet or exercise, the face and the neck will look thinner. It's like a mini face lift. You would be amazed at the face lifts before and after results.
Usually, only one facial liposuction session is performed for each surgery, but depending on the amount of fat you want or need removed, there might be follow up sessions. There are some who request to have other facial refinement procedures to make the recent liposuction more proportionate to the face. It has to be understood that facial liposuction is not a weight loss option though a patient may look thinner after the procedure. Surgeons may suggest this procedure to patients who want to have a chin implant because it will give a more prominent look to the chin as the fat removal defines the structure of the face.
The liposuction involves inserting a cannula tube into the small incisions of the bulging areas of the neck. The tube is connected to a pump or suction syringe in which the excess fat is extracted. During the liposuction procedure, the patient will be under a local anesthesia and lightly sedated. The incisions will be closed with single or double stitches by the end of the procedure. You may have to wear an elastic sling especially at night for at least 2 weeks to allow the area to heal.
Some discomfort may be felt by the patient after the procedure, which can be relieved by taking mild pain killers. You should expect swelling in the treated area, which can be reduced by applying cold packs. These can also relieve pain after the operation. The average downtime for patients who have undergone the operation is about 4 days, but it depends on the extent of the liposuction procedure conducted.
Ultrasonic facial liposuction is another variation of this facial fat removal method. During the process, the cannula tube is outfitted with a special tip that emits ultrasound waves. These ultrasound waves transform solid fat into liquid, which allows it to be suctioned easily and with minimum pressure. Ultrasonic liposuction is less painful and traumatic compared to the standard procedure of the face and neck lift. However, these two methods are always used in concert with each other. Its cost is much cheaper when used alone, but it is still quite expensive.
Another procedure that is done is to excise the extra skin that hangs under the chin. Laughably know as the "turkey gobbler", the person who has one hardly finds it a laughing matter. This is often happens as one ages. The elasticity of the skin falters and the body's ability to maintain and produce collagen causes the skin to sag. This mostly occurs when one is entering their sixties. Another instance where this could happen is when one experiences rapid weight loss. An obese person who loses weight too quickly and drops in size faster than his skin can naturally shrink back to its original size could develop this condition. In either case a neck lift is recommended.
No consultation for facial liposuction would be completed without addressing the factors that have led an individual to contemplate such an invasive feature. While the patient's first concern is always how to getting rid of the unwanted fat, they are often unconcerned with the unhealthy lifestyle that makes people turn to liposuction. In some cases the customer is not always right. There is such a phenomenon known as plastic surgery addiction. Based on statistics, those who seek facial cosmetic surgeries are the largest group of victims. Having more than three cosmetic procedures puts one at risk for developing the addiction. Often times the extra fat under the chin or jowls are not in the least bit unflattering, but someone who suffers from cosmetic surgery addiction has a skewed vision of their facial features. Medical records must always be thoroughly reviewed to ensure that the patient is doing such an operation for the right reasons.
The patient should be in a stable emotional condition and good health before undergoing the procedure. This surgical procedure is not applicable to people who have existing medical conditions as this may alter the result. A consultation with the surgeon performing the operation is highly advised. This will give both parties time to plan the surgery and be ready for whatever the result will be. They can even show you their results with facial liposuction before and after. This procedure is very effective in the reduction of the double chin, which could be an inherited trait, a result of the aging process or due to weight gain.
