It is so important to take good care of
your skin, and there are seemingly endless facial skincare products
on the market to help us in our quest for healthy, youthful looking
skin. The majority of these skin care products are high in chemicals,
and while it is these that give some of the great results promised,
many people don't like the idea of drenching their skin with
ingredients with names so long it is almost impossible to know how to
even begin saying them! There is also the matter of price, which with
many big name products tend to be on the expensive side, and
generally, the greater the claims of the product, the greater the
price. You can also find yourself paying for a brand name when it
comes to well known beauty product manufacturers.
If you are trying to detox your
lifestyle and get away from chemicals, or can't stand having to pay
extortionate prices for products that
you aren't even sure will work, then you should try taking a trip to
your kitchen and discover some of the amazing facial skin care products that are just sitting there waiting for you. Most people are
amazed at the amount of things they have in their kitchen that can be
used to cleanse, tone, moisturise and help fight the signs of aging.
It's just knowing what to use and how, and it is all very, very
simple.
Cleansing can be done with honey, which
is actually a great alrounder. Honey draws grime and dirt out from
your pores and gets rid of dead skin cells from the surface of your
skin, leaving it feeling deeply cleansed and glowing. Baking soda
helps even skin tone, and can also be used to clean your teeth. Full
fat, plain yoghurt is a lovely moisturiser, and can be mixed with
honey to make a great face mask. Strawberries are great for
increasing the metabolism of the skin, and will cleanse your skin
thoroughly and close pores, be careful with strawberries though as
they are quite powerful - if you have sensitive skin, test an area
first before smearing them all over your face! Witch hazel cleanses
skin nicely and is also great as a toner with the added benefit of
being able to soak up free radicals from your skin - keep it in the
fridge to really leave your skin feeling refreshed.
Retinol is one of the main ingredients
of many anti-aging skin care creams, and can produce great results.
Retinol is actually a tiny molecule that penetrates the skins
outer-most layer and regenerates the layers that contain elastin and
collagen, which gives your skin a much smoother and more supple
appearance, Rather than splashing out loads of money on a Retinol
based skin care cream, instead grab yourself some carrots, which are
naturally high in Retinol and co-enzyme Q10. You can make all sorts
of lovely face masks with carrots, such as mixing carrot juice with a
few drops of olive oil and an egg yolk - mix thoroughly and apply to
your face, sit back and relax for half an hour and rinse with luke
warm water. Alternatively you can boil up some carrots, mash them and
leave them to cool, mix in some full fat yoghurt and a spoon of honey
and apply to your face, again, relax for half an hour and rinse off
with luke warm water. There is no harm with experimenting with
different ingredients to find a combination you really like, as they
are all natural ingredients there isn't as much risk of having any
kind of allergic reaction. Of course, if you have sensitive skin, or
are allergic to any food stuffs, then be careful with what you use,
if you are unsure then perform a skin test before going ahead with a
full on treatment.
Remember that anything you make is best
used straight away as you are using pure, fresh ingredients that
aren't bolstered with preservatives, so they will deteriorate much
quicker than store bought skincare products. Of course the beauty of
home made facial skin care products is that you can just make what
you need and use it straight away, ensuring you get the most out of
the ingredients.
