Factors to Consider in a Humidifier

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Humidifiers come in a wide variety of models and each one offers different features for different purposes. Knowing your needs is the first step to selecting the right model. This means knowing what type of filter the unit will require as well as the size of the unit and what special functions it could perform. Most are not crucial but some people like the added benefit of having the extra functions built into the humidifier.

The ease of use is the first consideration. This is especially important for first time owners when consumable parts such as the filter require changing unless you have a filterless humidifier. It is nice to have a unit that can be easily taken apart for routine filter replacing and general cleaning. A large water tank is a good feature to have because it means more usage in between fill ups.

Most new humidifiers have become better at limiting the noise generated but it is still a factor to keep in mind. Quality brands today have dramatically reduced the noise produced during the appliance's operation which is crucial for those who are bothered by excess noise. Warm mist humidifiers often produce less noise compared to cool mist units.

A humidifier with indicator lights to report when the water levels are low can really be useful. It is good to have because a unit that is in use but has an empty water tank is really just wasting energy. More advanced units offer an auto shut off feature so the appliance turns itself off when the tank runs out of water.

The auto shut off can also be linked to the humidity meter. With this feature, a user can set the desired humidity level and the unit will turn off when the target humidity is reached. This is very useful since too much relative humidity can cause problems such as dust mites, mold, and mildew.

Those are probably the most important features anyone would want with their humidifier unit. All standard humidifiers use some type of replacement humidifier filter to clear the air that flows through the unit of debris and other pollutants. The key to getting the most out of your humidifier is routinely changing the filter.
