Resting on Sustaining Grace of God
If you earnestly desire to get to the heavenly kingdom, then you must understand that even though the road is filled with ups and down, you can make it if you lean on the grace of God and not on your own abilities. There is no denying that we live in an age where corruption thrives, that we are still in flesh, that the flesh is still in war with our spirit man,and that it strives to weaken our resolve to run this race successfully. But through it all,we have the wonderful assurance that God is able to keep us righteous and steadfast to the end.Jude 1:24-25 says,"Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presense of his glory,to the only wise God our Saviour,be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever"
The Chistian life is a life faith. So if you want to be in constant readiness for heaven, you must live a life of faith. The great men and women of Bible days were able to make it to the end as a result of their life of faith and confidence in the Lord. They were able to do exploit through faith in the Lord and His unfailing word.
You must also develop the habit of self-examination through the mirror of God's word(2-Corinthians 13:5) .This daily self-examination is to ensure you are still on the way to heaven, because the devil is always on the prowl to make you to sin (I Peter 5:8),and it is only those who endure to the end that will be saved (Mattew 10:22)
As one who claims to have been saved, your current position in the Lord is what matters, not your previous testimonies and achievements (Philippians 3: 13-15).You must therefore put aside past achievements in the Lord and move forward.Your current life of righteousness and holiness is what the Lord reckons with.
Moreover, being ocupied in the service of the Lord keeps you focused and helps you not to be distracted by the activities of the world. So "Preach the word:be instant in season, out of season....." (2 Timothy 4:2; Luke 19:13).Remember also that a prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. Therefore, you must constantly watch and pray."Watch and pray" says the Lord,"that ye enter not into temptation"(Matthew 26:41).
Finally, the Bible says he that thinks he stands should take heed lest he falls (1 Corinthians 10:2).Don't deceive yourself if you are not in the right standing with the Lord. And don't let anybody deceive you either.Repent and turn back to the Lord.He will receive you if you do so with sincerity.Make sure your life is in line with the word of God because Jesus is coming soon with His rewards. You will be richly rewarded if you remain faithful to His words to the end (Revelations 22: 11-12).
