Fall Outfits for Women

By Edited Aug 23, 2015 0 0

Probably my favorite clothing season of the entire year is fall. Unfortunately since I live in Utah it also seems to be the shortest season as we head right into winter after a few weeks. This year it wasn't about the obvious leaf applique scarfs or orange sweaters. It was about playing around with textures and silhouettes. Here is what you'll need to assemble the perfect fall outfit.

1. Choose colorful jeans. This allows you to wear colors like orange but in a more flattering way than if it was near your face. Also, instead of a typical pumpkin orange I would go for a really beautiful coral. This can also work for springtime and it was one of the hotter colors this year. This is a transition piece that can still come in those trendy fall colors.

2. Try out mustard yellow. I recommend this on smaller pieces like a handbag or a bubble necklace because it isn't the easiest to wear in large doses. Don't spend too much money on this because although it's a classic autumnal color I do expect that it will become dated soon even though it is a huge trend at the moment.

3. Get a v neck cardigan. We're seeing this look much more than a typical pull over and it really helps to define the waist. This is more fitted than the flyaway cardigans that we have been seeing. It can either be long, short, or cropped. Skip patterns and looks for solid prints in jewel tones.

4. Warm up your neutrals. For the past few years gray has been the go to neutral for almost every season. That is still true this year but luckily there is a little bit of variety. Instead of chocolate brown like we've seen in previous years now it's all about soft taupes and bronzes. This is also one of the most saturated years and seasons for colors that I've seen.  Many outfits won't have any neutral tones in them at all.

I would say that the one must have thing that you'll need for this season will be boots. To me suede is also so much more appropriate for fall than you would find in winter boots in leather. Look for rich caramel tones but find something that can also transition into winter as well. Tall boots seem to be trendier. However, for dress shoes again boots reign supreme here with the bootie style. Make it perfect for the season with an olive green tone. This helps to tone down the trend of bright skinny jeans.

Relaxed knits and tees also transition their way into this season. It may have details like beading or ruching but you'll find them in rich jewel tones for this time of year.

The secret to dressing for fall this year is to wear color and a lot of it. Stick with many vibrant tones and bring them together with one staple Ikat handbag. With these few wardrobe staples you'll be able to recreate a lot of the looks that are popular this season and some of them will also work for winter or spring too!
