Far Cry Primal - How to Tame Every Animal and What Perks They Offer

By 0 0

Far Cry Primal puts players in control of Takkar, the lone survivor of his hunting party amongst the earliest evolutions of humanity. While Takkar is a capable survivor on his own, he needs a bit of help in the constantly dangerous ancient Earth. In previous entries in the Far Cry series, your character supplemented his own ability to survive with just a ridiculous array of weaponry. In Far Cry Primal, the guns are gone and Ubisoft said, "Here, use his pointy stick instead." Thankfully, even if the guns are gone, the most deadly weapon in the Far Cry series still remains - the animals. No longer do you need to toss a hunk of meat into an outpost to have a tiger or a pack of wolves go wild, but in Far Cry Primal, you can tame the animals and have them do your bidding at will.

Taming an Animal

Some animals are given to you as part of the story, but other animals will need to be tamed out in the wild. While there are many regular beasties that have some good benefits, there are also rare animals to capture as well. While they have better stats, their abilities remain the same as their regular counterparts.

However, players will never find all that out unless they tame them first!

Here is how to tame an animal friend in Far Cry Primal:

  • Bait, a recipe using two meats and is acquired from the main story, should be thrown a decent distance away from the player. While it is possible to toss bait if the animal is already trying to eat your face off, it will have no effect. Before throwing the bait, be sure to crouch as standing will scare the animal off (or entice it to attack you).

  • If an exclamation point appears over the animal's head, this means they have taken the bait and will move towards it. However, do not approach the animal yet.

  • Once the animal starts eating, a paw print icon will appear over it. This is your signal that is safe to start slowly approaching the animal. Once in range, you will be prompted to press the button to tame the animal. Press the button and hold it down until the game tells you the animal is tamed. If you let it go, the animal will run.

If you are having problems taming animals, try moving even more slowly. That is the key. It may also be wise to dismiss any other beasts that you have accompanying you as they may occasionally attack the animal you are trying to tame without being ordered to.
