Fast Track to Closet Organization

By | Mar 23, 2011 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

It can prove to be a challenging task to keep any closet organized and in good order.  Since the closet is a hardworking and much-used area of the home, it presents special challenges when it comes to staying organized and useful.  If the closets in your home are slowly but surely becoming overwhelming to behold, then it is high time for a closet makeover.  The tips that follow will point you in the right direction for organization, once and for all.

Clothing and Shoes

When it comes to a bedroom closet, it is often the case that there is just too much “stuff” in there to begin with.  Chances are good that your clothing is crowded, which makes it hard to find what you are looking for – and your items are likely wrinkled and rumpled.  First, get rid of items that you no longer wear. Also, if items turn up in your closet that belong elsewhere, such as the flower wall sculptures or large hanging vases that you bought last year, get  them hung up where they belong.

Next, organize what is left. In many cases, adding an additional clothing rod can be a good way to solve the problem.  Sometimes closets will have a top shelf that can be removed in order to allow for a second rod to be placed instead. This is particularly true if you rarely use the shelf for any purpose.  You will not be able to hang your full-length dresses from this rod, but it will make it simple to hang tops, skirts, and shirt.  Complete the effect by adding an over the door organizer to the inside of your closet door. This will give you more space for storage.  You can use the organizer for personal accessories and shoes, and you will enjoy having everything organized and handy!

More Shelving

When you are looking to organize the hallway closet, linen closet, or the closet in a child’s bedroom, you may find that there is a lot of space that is actually being wasted by the clothing rod.  In this instance, adding additional shelving can be the best solution.  For a child’s closet, think about bringing in some lower shelves that provide toy storage and that are at an ideal height for children to reach.  Lower the clothing rod to allow for the child to reach clothing without help.  Install a few shelves above the clothing rod to store away off season clothing, bedding, and things that the child does not need to be able to reach.  You can also bring in an over-the-door organizer in this space. The pockets can be used for storing small items, personal accessories and toys.  For linen closets and hallway closets, add an extra shelf to make the space more efficient. Reduce shelf height to add even more space.

Closet Organizers are Great Investment

The closet organizer system is perfect for many closets, and is considered by many to be the ultimate in closet organization.  This type of system typically consists of several different modules that can be used together.  You can choose from drawers, racks, clothing rods, bins, and cabinets.  Closet organizers are more expensive, but often the best choice.
