There are many different ways to make a hamburger and when you go out to eat, each restaurant has their own specialty. I am always amazed at how good they can make them taste over fast food burgers. However, you can make your own delicious restaurant style burgers at home.

The following recipes represent my personal favorites and I normally enjoy them with some steak fries and baked beans.

I like to cook on an outdoor grill, however, when circumstances make that impossible, I cook on an electric skillet because I have more room for more patties. Feel free to use any type of skillet over an open flame stove though.

My mother has been making this first recipe since I was a child. When I was younger, she would leave out the onions because I hated them on anything, but now I can appreciate the flavor they add to any food. you can adjust the ingredients slightly depending on how many people you are expecting.


  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

How to Prepare

  1. If cooking on a skillet, preheat on High.
  2. Dice the onion and mince the garlic clove.
  3. Combine all of the ingredients listed above into a large mixing bowl.
  4. After the ground beef is mixed well with all of the ingredients, form into 6 patties. Again, if you are using more or less ground beef, adjust the number of patties accordingly.

How to Cook

Place on the skillet or grill and cook to your desired taste. For a patty this size, medium well  should cook  for about 5 minutes on each side. For a well done patty, cook for 5 to 10 minutes per side depending on the type of skillet you have or if you are using an open flame on a grill. If in doubt, poke the middle of one of the patties to verify there is no red or pink. Use your best judgment.  

All burgers are great served with warm whole wheat bun. Combine your burgers with fries and beans and enjoy the party.

Best Hamburger Recipe #2

Another great hamburger is one I stumbled upon myself through trial and error. I like to use tumeric on a lot of foods (including scrambed eggs) because it is a nutritional powerhouse.  Again, adjust the ingredients slightly depending on the number of people you are serving.


  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion
  • 1/2 pound cooked bacon
  • 2 tablespoon turmeric
  • Salt and pepper

How to Prepare

  1. If cooking on a skillet, preheat on High.
  2. Dice the onion.
  3. Combine bacon and cheese in a mixing bowl
  4. Combine ground beef with turmeric, salt, pepper and onions and form into 8 thin patties.

How to Cook

  1. Place the patties on the skillet or grill.
  2. Place the bacon and cheese mix on top of each of the 8 thin patties.
  3. Grill until well done, usually about 10 minutes.

It is important to make the patties thin for this recipe because you will not be flipping the patties once playing them on the grill. If you feel it necessary to flip the pattie, after the 5 minute mark, you can do so because the bacon and cheese mixture will be sufficiently melted and stuck to the pattie.  However, I do not find usually do this since the patties are so thin and it cooks throughout.

Best Garlic Fries

Best Garlic Fries Recipe

I like to make my own home made fries whenever I cook one of the hamburgers above. One of my favorite recipes is for garlic fries. I actually put a twist on this classic by adding parmesan cheese at the end, then melting it on the fries. Here is how to do it.


  • 6 large potatoes
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground dried thyme
  • 1 cup of parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

For larger groups, adjust the amounts slightly.

How to Prepare

  1. Preheat an oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Cut the potatoes into 1/4-inch strips.
  3. Mince the garlic cloves.   
  4. Place the potatoes in a mixing bowl and pour on the 1/2 cup of olive oil.
  5. Season with garlic, thyme, and salt and pepper (optional).
  6. Toss the potatoes in the bowl until mixed thoroughly .

How to Cook

  1. Take the potato strips out of the bowl and spread out on a baking sheet.Save the remaining oil and spices in the bowl.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes
  3. Open the oven and flip the fries, then cook for another 15 minutes.
  4. Remove from the oven, then place the cooked fries back in the olive oil and spice bowl.
  5. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese and parsley.
  6. Toss until well coated, then spread again onto the baking sheet.
  7. Return to the oven, and bake about 10 minutes or until the Parmesan cheese melts.
  8. Sprinkle the fries with the remaining 1/2 cup of Parmesan cheese and salt and pepper as desired.

Sometimes I also like to create a sauce to go on each burger that consists of chopped green peppers and chopped jalapenos in extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil.

I simply combine everything and heat on the stove for about five minutes.  It gives the burger a little more nutrition and is also good over steak fries.

Try you own combination. You cannot really go wrong with a hamburger or with home made fries.
