Featured Reading

Publishing content on InfoBarrel has many advantages such as the opportunity for authors to have their articles featured on the front page of the site. Getting a feature, however, grants an author more than front page status. According to InfoBarrel's administration a feature can increase traffic and may help with search engine rankings. In addition, a featured article may be posted on the InfoBarrel Facebook Page or can be tweeted on the InfoBarrel Twitter account, which has over 900 followers.  Another benefit is that these articles automatically go into the Featured RSS feed and may get promoted on sites such as Stumble Upon and others.  For numerous authors getting that first featured article is a tremendous honor and such a great feeling that many post about it in the InfoBarrel Forum.

Tips For Getting Featured

Here are some suggestions from the administration at InfoBarrel to help get your articles featured.

Include Pictures

Incorporate high quality photographs throughout your article. You may use personal photographs or you can find some sites which offer royalty free photos. Two popular sites are Wikipedia (creative common images) and Morguefile, and although the photographs require no royalties, you should always document the proper credit(s) for any photo that is not your own personal property.

Include Citations

Citations improve the credibility of an article and although they are not required, the administration will lean more towards articles with citations where applicable.

Attractive Formatting

When appropriate use headings and break-up an article into concise and informative sections.  When writing a "Top List" be sure to include matching widths to make everything look uniform.

Entertaining and Resourceful Content

An article should provide some value to the reader. Make an effort to write entertaining and resourceful articles.

Reviewing this article was interesting, simply because it was one of your pieces upon which I made my very FIRST IB comment. It was your article about the political underpinning of "The Wizard of Oz", and I just now read it again. For my money, it's STILL one of the best things I've read on this site simply because of the perspective. (And look at me now -- I know who you are, and not just some anonymous writer whose work impressed me back when). Congrats on the much-deserved success.
