Fibromyalgia Mornings

By Edited Jun 22, 2016 0 0

Mornings can be tough for a person suffering with Fibromyalgia, its a struggle for most people with fibromyalgia just to get out of bed in the morning. The pain, stiffness and soreness in muscles and joints make you want to just stay in bed all day. For most people staying in bed all day is not an option nor would most people want too. Winter time is one of the worst seasons for Fibromyalgia flare-ups. And morning pain and stiffness are at there worst as well. There are a couple of things you can try to help reduce the pain of winter mornings or any morning that the symptoms persist.

When you hear your alarm go off and you want to pull up the covers and ignore it, there is hope. Instead of reaching for a bottle of over-the-counter pain reliever, try sitting up in bed. Then pull your arms up over your head slowly and gently. This should be done two to three times. After you do that, stand and do some light simple leg stretches, nothing heavy just gently, and do whatever you are personally comfortable with. This should be done as many times as you feel comfortable. If something hurts to much then don't force yourself, the idea is to not hurt or damage yourself but to provide relief.

Once you have done some light stretches, then grab a towel and head for the shower. A nice hot shower can provide a significant amount of relief for achy joints. The heat soothes and loosens joints. While in the shower do some light stretches, this will continue to loosen up tight joints. The stretches combined with the heat of the hot water is key. If soaking in the bath do some knee bends gently, don't forget your arms they need love too, bend arms up and down keeping elbows in the hot water.

A person with Fibromyalgia lives with pain each day, and mornings are sometimes hard to face. Mornings can be very character building for a person with Fibromyalgia, and winter time can be overwhelming. Doing light stretches and using the heat of a hot shower or bath can provide enough relief to get you moving in the morning. It can make a difficult morning a little more tolerable, and hopefully mornings can be a little more pleasurable.
