By | Jan 19, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

There is a lot of free family entertainment to be found at your local library. It can be your family's best resource for free year-round entertainment. All you need is a library card!

Books

Books offer a lot of free family entertainment for your family. Do you want to read the latest New York Times bestseller? No need to fork over twenty-five dollars at the local bookstore for a copy. Just go to your local library and place your request if the book is already checked out.

If your children have fallen in love with a particular author or series, your library will have access the full set. In fact, when you know that a new title is coming out, you can request the library to buy it and be first in line to read it.

DVDs and CDs

Movies and music are a great source of family entertainment that can be found at your local library. While owning the newest DVD releases is great if you can afford it, will you really watch the movie more than once? Take it out of the library for free! You can renew it or take it out again at another time whenever you want to watch it.

The same line of thought applies with music CDs. You can borrow it and see if you want to buy it for your own library.

Calendar of Events for the Family

Your local public library has calendars of special events for children of all ages. All of this is free family entertainment. From toddler and preschool story and craft time to clubs for older children, your library can be a source of free social activities for you and your children. Check on-line for complete county and branch calendars.

You do not have to only use your local branch. Other libraries have different dates and times for story time that may better fit your schedule. Find a nearby park and pack a picnic lunch, and you have a great free day out!

Libraries also offer book clubs for children and adults. Check out what they are discussing and see if you wish to join in!

Fun for Adults

Free family entertainment for adults at your local library can include exercise classes, photography classes, view films and discuss them and receive job placement assistance at the library. There are lots of other classes to take free of charge, too.

In sum, your library card is your ticket to a lot of free family entertainment at your local library and a year's worth of family fun!
