Finding Peace in Your Yard by Keeping in Green and Clean

By | Feb 11, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Isn't grass a wonderful thing? Not smoking it, but enjoying the fresh green grass that covers your lawn. It can be like carpet and a place for friends, family, and pets to enjoy a hot summer day or cool spring morning. To keep it looking its best, there are a million different theories about how best to care for your lawn.

One way to keep your lawn free of debris and looking nice is by continuous raking; the key word here being continuous. But if you're anything like me, you may hate raking leaves. Raking leaves brings back memories of a child and spending weekends laboring in the yard collecting leaves instead of at the ballpark playing with friends. Have you ever heard of a garden tool/equipment called a lawn sweeper? Gee, I wish I would have had one of these as a child; it would have saved me a ton of time.

Whether you're into raking leaves or not, a lawn sweeper is a godsend as far as I'm concerned. However, with that said, you'll want to make sure you get a good sweeper, there are some real cheapo ones out there. But like everything, you get what you pay for. Basically these amazing pieces of equipment come in two varieties, push behind and tow behind; which is pretty self-explanatory. Obviously if you want a tow behind model you'll need something to tow it behind like a garden tractor or ATV. If you have a small yard like me, a push yard sweepers is great. The basic premise with all of them is the sweeper runs across your yard and "sweeps" up debris and leaves into a hopper which, once filled, you dump into a pile or transfer into a trash or compost bag. So if you hate raking leaves like I do, look around for some lawn sweeper reviews

So back to finding peace of mind in your yard… how about greener grass? Doesn't everyone want a nice green lawn? I sure do and I've found something that works pretty darn good for getting our lawn green. This may not be a big secret to most people, but for me it was something pretty simple I hadn't tried before. I use the Miracle-Gro lawn food and spray it on our yard on average two to three times a month or sometimes even once a week. The only down side of this is you have to mow your yard a lot more; I generally have to mow at least twice a week if I'm using Miracle-Gro. Although I can say I haven't the greenest yard on our block.

So how does lawn sweeping and green grass equate to finding peace in your yard? Well, have you ever taken the time to just sit down in your yard in spring or summer and enjoy the outdoors? It's nice let me tell you. My wife and I often do yoga in our backyard, which I think is safe to say a way of finding peace. If our yard was full of leaves and debris and all brown, it wouldn't be very peaceful and I surely wouldn't want to be out there doing yoga.

I guess I've sort of come full-circle. As a child, I hated doing lawn work. Actually I despised it. It seems whenever I had to mow or rake the lawn everyone else was out at the park or playing ball on the school diamond just down the street from our house. But today I really enjoy working in the yard. Don't get me wrong, I'm not obsessive about it or anything and even think mowing twice a week is a little much; but I do find some peace spending time outside with nature.
