Finding The Cheapest Laptops
Where is the best place to get cheap laptops or even a free laptop? Many people, including plenty of students, would like to know this type of information. If you just walk in to your local electronics super store then you are going to end up paying way more than you might need to. In most cases, an older machine or a used machine will be able to get the job done for us.
You might ask your friends or family members first about possibly getting a free laptop. If they have an old machine laying around that they are not using, they might just give it up for nothing, or possibly negotiate a small amount of money for it. Either way this is probably the cheapest route you can go.
Another possibility is to check on Craigslist or eBay for an older used model. Again, if you can get away with running an older copy of Windows just to use the internet and some basic office applications, then there is really no reason to get the latest and greatest and have to shell out extra cash in order to do so. If you can find a cheap used netbook or even a brand new one that is on close out then this will be one of the more affordable laptops you can find. Already cheap notebooks that are either used or discounted will be very cheap indeed.
You might also find a good on a cheap laptop in a locally operated laptop shop that does computer repair and such. Many times the people who own and operate these shops will have access to plenty of used laptops that are a bit older that they have fixed up and tested enough so that they know the machine is working properly. If so then this is another great spot to look for a great deal on a laptop.
Do your research first and find a brand that is super reliable, such as the IBM Thinkpad series. You can buy a machine that is 3 years older or even more and still get a rock solid laptop that can serve you well for years to come. One of the only issues might be the battery life but even those have a way of lasting for decades even on reliable machines. Plus, older laptop batteries can generally be replaced pretty cheap on eBay.
Finally, you might look into getting a brand new netbook when they are discounted or on sale. These little machines are tiny but if you can type fast on them then there is no reason to spend any more money on a larger notebook. If you can do real work on them then you can save a ton of money by being one of these smaller machines.
