Finding The Ideal Work At Home Job
Just as it can take some time and practice finding your footing in the general world of work, it can also take some time (as well as some trial and error) finding your ideal work at home job. (And remember, one person’s ideal work at home job may be another person’s work at home nightmare. Different home jobs work well for different people, depending upon their temperaments, talents and a variety of other factors as well.)
One possible set-up to consider if you are interested in working from home but you currently have an office job is asking your boss if you can work from home one or two days per week. You will need to be easily accessible to your employer if you make this request, and you will probably need to take part in conference calls, etc., but you might be pleasantly surprised to discover that your boss might more amenable to the idea of your working from home part time than you might think.
This is not an option for everyone, of course, but many people have home offices nowadays and some bosses are also interested in (and sympathetic to) the idea of working from home (at least part time) themselves, which may make them more empathetic to you.
If you are currently unemployed, working from home is an option you might consider during your job hunt, in between sending out resumes and researching jobs leads. For instance, if you like writing, you can make some quick money writing articles (web content, typically) for people who own websites who like to outsource the content writing. This kind of work is especially suitable for work at home moms, work at home dads and college students. It does typically require some research skills (and writing skills, obviously). But it is a great “in between” option for a lot of people.
Read everything you can find about working at home, and if you are interested in working for a particular work at home company, read every message board thread and every article you can find about that company to determine its legitimacy ahead of time, so that you can save yourself time and heartache if it is not in fact legitimate.
Finally, if one work at home job option does not pan out or turns out not to be everything that you expected, don’t throw in the towel on the whole idea of working from home. If you are a freelancer, seek new clients with whom you are more compatible, for example. Don’t give up on your work at home dreams because of one or two setbacks, since setbacks are simply a part of life.
