Finding Wide Baby Shoes for Chubby Feet

By | Oct 13, 2009 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

A chubby baby foot is one of the most adorable parts of a new baby. However, it can be hard to find shoes to fit such a pudgy foot. Fat baby feet are require extra dimensions and parents need to shop for wide baby shoes. Here are some resources and ideas to help you find wide baby shoes.

Soft soled baby shoes are winners on two fronts: they come in wide sizes (even double wide) and they are pediatrician recommended. Soft soled shoes are also great because they stay on baby's feet with an elastic band around the mouth of the shoe. This helps keep shoes on, and lets the mouth expand so parents can get those wide feet into the shoe. Pediatricians actually recommend these shoes for kids under 2 because they allow the muscles, tendons, bones, and ligaments in the foot to grow correctly without being restricted by hard, rigid shoes.

If the weather permits, buy sandals. Sandals are great alternatives to wide baby shoes because the multiple straps make it easy to create a custom fit. Baby sandals are sold at most major retail stores and you do not have to pay extra for wide sizes--just adjust accordingly!

If you must have closed toed shoes and you do not like the idea of soft soled baby shoes, try buying New Balance or Stride Rite. These companies both make great styles of wide baby shoes that are durable and provide a good fit. Some of sizes of wide baby shoes are not stocked in stores, so you may have to do your ordering online. If you have never gotten your baby sized before, Stride Rite offers a printable sizer that can tell you the exact size and width of shoe you need to buy for your baby.
