Finding the Right Magnifying Mirror

By Edited Nov 21, 2013 0 0

Mirrors are essential in a bathroom. In addition to a wall-mounted mirror, you probably have a small, hand-held mirror that lies out on the counter or gets shoved in a drawer. If you are remodeling or upgrading your bathroom, why not consider upgrading your mirror as well?

Magnifying Makeup Mirror

Makeup mirrors come with different levels of magnification. From a magnification of 2x for basic makeup application and grooming; to the intense magnification of 10x; and everything in between. The choice is up to you. You may want to visit a home improvement store to try out the different magnification levels and see what works best for you.

Lighted Magnification Mirror

These days you also have more choices of lighting options:

Incandescent bulbs are the old classic style light bulbs that we're all familiar with. Incandescent bulbs are the least energy efficient choice. They also emit quite a bit of heat. This can be a problem depending on how close your face is to the mirror and for how long. One advantage of incandescent bulbs is that they give off a warm light which is closest to natural light. This is the most desirable lighting for makeup application.

Fluorescent bulbs tend to be cool to the touch. They are generally more energy efficient than incandescent light bulbs. As a disadvantage, they tend toward the cool end of the lighting spectrum, which gives off an unnatural light. Full spectrum fluorescent bulbs are available if you're willing to look.

LED lighting is the most energy efficient option of the three. LED lights are extremely bright, and also very small. This leads to another plus in that the mirrors fitted with LED lights can be much less bulky.

Wall Mount Magnifying Mirror

Wall mount magnifying mirrors are becoming increasingly popular in upscale homes. A wall mounted mirror will most likely have lighting. A wall mount mirror allows for an extra hand for make-up application. It allows you to see your hair from the back while allowing you the use of both hands for styling. It also provides for a less cluttered countertop.

A mirror in your bathroom is a necessity. Why not make it an asset rather than an afterthought.
