Five Diet Tips To Start Off 2010

If you are reading this article, then you are well aware of what it takes to lose weight. Eat less and exercise more. Seems simple, right? It would seem so, but why do the obesity rates continue to rise in countries like the United States, England and Australia? How do the successful losers manage to lose the weight in today's fast paced, quick meal society? The following are some diet tips that were gathered from successful dieters around the globe, and can be a great way to kick start your 2010 diet goals.

Diet Tip #1 – Drink plenty of water – Water not only flushes toxins out of your body, but also often staves off hunger or what you think is hunger. People often eat when really they are just thirsty, and this can be a great step towards quick weight loss because you can cut down excess calories rather quickly. Therefore, it is important to drink plenty of water during the day. Try drinking ice-cold water because it actually burns more calories! If you do not like plain water, try adding some lemon or other citrus juice to it.

Diet Tip #2 – Try not to think about what you have to remove from your current diet, but what you should add. Most people do not get the required 5-9 servings of fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. If you added servings of each to your diet, you would find that you have less room to eat the junk. You can also curb your sweet tooth by eating fruits.

Diet Tip #3 – Take a moment, before you put that doughnut in your mouth, and consider if you are truly hungry. Many times stress or anxiety causes sympathetic hunger pangs and if you eat out of emotional issues, then your hunger will not be satisfied. A good way to learn about true hunger is to keep your portion sizes smaller, so you are able to better gauge what is true hunger.

Diet Tip #4 – The best diet tips in the world will all tell you that your evening snacking is going to be your downfall if nothing else. This is because we finally get a chance to sit down and relax and we are more prone to mindless eating at this time. Watching TV helps us zone out further, so either close down the kitchen or allow yourself a small 100-calorie snack.

Diet Tip #5 – Do NOT deprive yourself of your favorite foods. This is a diet sabotage waiting to happen if you do not allow yourself to eat the things you like. The idea here is to drastically cut back on your favorite unhealthy foods, but still allow yourself to indulge a little. Instead of eating the whole pizza, limit yourself to one piece and a big salad!

Of course, not all the diet tips in the world will help if you are not ready to lose the weight and keep it off. Many people suffer from yo-yo dieting their entire lives without ever finding real success on their weight loss journey. Many people turn to weight loss surgery with some success, but others end up gaining the weight back in the end. In order to be successful at dieting, you must change your lifestyle, your mindset, and really learn how to eat healthier and exercise more. Make 2010 the beginning of a new decade for a healthier lifestyle and a healthier weight!
