5 Prom Tips to Get Your Hair Done for Less

By Edited Jan 29, 2015 0 0

Here are five prom tips for getting your hair done for less. Going to the prom can be a very expensive event for a teenage girl and her parents, but there are ways to trim costs for this special night. Hair is a woman's crowning glory, and if the hairstyle isn't just right, the tears are going to flow. By following one of these five tips, your hair can look fabulous for less!

#1 Beauty Schools Do Hair for Less

If you have a beauty school near your house, you can go there and have your hair done for much less than at a salon. Call ahead and ask what the student pricing is for the kind of hairstyle you want. You may be pleasantly surprised to find out that you can have your hair done for a fraction of the price! Book early-others want to get their hair done for less for the prom!

#2 Ask Your Regular Stylist

Ask your regular hair stylist if she goes to people's homes and does her job off the books in her free time. Many stylists will go to your home on their day off and do your hair if you give her cash.

#3 Ask a Beauty School Student

Do you know someone who is going to beauty school and needs some extra practice? I'm not talking about chemicals, coloring, or giving a cut, but someone who needs some extra styling practice. This prom tip is great for both parties involved. Discuss the cost, if any, for this. The beauty student can practice curling, pinning, or straightening your hair, as well as various up-dos. Try this a few times before the prom, take a picture of the hairstyle you like, and you are ready for prom night!

 #4 Ask Family and Friends

Do you have a friend or relative who is really good at creating different styles? Maybe she can get the curliest hair straight, or the straightest hair to stay curly. This is an option if your friend is not going to the prom.

 #5 Do Your Own Hair

Yes, I wrote that you should do your own hair. Some people are never happy with how their style comes out after a visit to the salon. I did my own hair for my prom, as well as my wedding and my daughter's Bat Mitzvah, because I like how I style it best.

If you are like me, skip the fancy hairdo and keep your style simple. Invest in some pretty matching hair accessories and practice the hairstyle you want. Just be sure this is the choice you want to make, because getting an appointment last minute at prom time will be next to impossible.

Don't let out of control prom prices keep you at home. Using one of these five prom tips will have you looking and feeling like a princess on prom night.
