Five Quick and Easy Interior Design Tips

By Edited Dec 20, 2015 0 0

When it comes to the interior design within the home, oftentimes homeowners become easily confused about the route they want to take or the design style they want to incorporate into their home. With so many styles, ranging from traditional, modern, retro, shabby chic and beyond, there comes a time to decide a personal design aesthetic.

Interior design doesn't have to be as complicated as rocket science. Determine personal likes and dislikes while flipping through a design magazine or television channel and make it ones own. Here are five quick and easy interior design tips to make a personal space one of a kind.

Fresh Paint Job for a New Look

One of the easiest ways to transform a room is with paint. Sometimes a boldly painted wall can change the mood of a room in an instant. For a brighter room, opt for a soft yellow or light green. For a more dramatic, yet fun environment, go with a peacock blue or retro orange. Adding texture to a painted wall is another option. Check out some interior design websites or ask a specialist on easy ways to add texture by using a sponge or other materials around the home or at the home improvement store.

Utilizing Furniture that Stands Out

Another great and simple way to create a focal point in a communal room is to purchase a large leather couch in San Diego or luxury leather seat or recliner. If the home has a small living room or other smaller pieces of furniture, the presence of a great seating arrangement is always key. Look for a leather sectional in black, mahogany, or light brown and keep an eye out for coordinating furniture pieces.

Use Complimentary Art

Other than paint, look for other ways to decorate the walls of the room. Search for original paintings or photographs with colors that blend with the rest of the room. Use wall clocks, cabinetry or other wall hangings to decorate. And if what's in the home decorating or improvement stores doesn't suit the personal aesthetic, look for alternative places to shop, such as flea markets, swap meets and garage sales. Not an art enthusiast? Blow up a family portrait to place above the mantle or on the main wall to make the family the center of attention.

Lighting Makes a Big Difference

Lighting is another easy way to spruce up a room. Determine the need for lighting accents and go for standing floor lamps, tabletop lamps, wall light sconces, or wall or ceiling mounted accent lights. Dimming lights are always a nice touch to a room. Interested in other types of lighting? Candles are always an interesting interior design choice, because not only are they available in different sizes, colors and scents, but they also create a softer mood and look to a room.

Making Use of Area Rugs

Area rugs are another easy fix to a drab living space. Rugs come in a variety of shapes and sizes and the options are endless when it comes to color scheme options. Go with a traditional looking rug, or even a modern style rug with abstract lines and shapes.
